Jacob Weddington
Jacob "Jack" Weddington, Jr., son of Jacob Weddington, Sr. and Jane
(Pressley) Weddington, was born January 22, 1814, in Russell County, VA.
On February 16, 1837, in Russell County, Jacob married Sarah Ann Cassidy
who was born about 1822 in Tazewell County, VA. Jacob and Sarah moved to
Pike County, KY where they lived for many years and raised a large family.
Their children, all born in Pike County, are Henry Weddington, b. abt.
1837; William Weddington, b. abt. 1838; Marietta Weddington, b. abt. 1840;
Nancy Weddington, b. abt. 1842; Londermia Weddington, b. abt. 1846; Richard
French Weddington, b. abt. 1848; Elizabeth Weddington, b. May 10, 1849;
George C. Weddington, b. April 29, 1850; and McDonald Weddington, b. May 2,
1852. Another son, Jacob, was born in 1856, but died before 1865.
On the 12th day of September 1862, in Johnson County, KY, Jacob Weddington
enlisted as a private in Company A, of the 39th Regiment of Kentucky
Mounted Infantry under the command of Captain Henry R. Brown. He served
continuously with the Regiment until his death in the U.S. General Hospital
at Ashland, KY on February 5, 1865. Sarah Weddington's application for
widow's pension states that her husband "died of a disease called Dropsy,
contracted while in line of his duty in the service of the United States."
On the basis of his service, Sarah was awarded a pension of $8 monthly on
December 8, 1865, retroactive to the date of Jacob's death. Several years
later her pension was increased to $12 per month. Documents in the pension
file show that Sarah continued to live in Pike County until her death which
occurred sometime before April 4, 1894, when her widow's pension was
discontinued.

Additional information: Ely states that almost all of the Weddingtons were strong Democrats, though the few Weddingtons who were not Democrats were equally ardent Republicans.
