David Anderson, Jr., Company E

David Anderson, Jr., was born 20 Oct., 1816, in Russell County, Va., son of David, Sr., and Jane Hackney. He married Emily Justice 1 Feb., 1838, in Pike County, Ky. They had nine children.

He enrolled in the 39th Kentucky Infantry, Co. E Oct. 6, 1862 and mustered-in Feb. 16, 1863, Peach Orchard, Lawrence County, Ky.; no muster-out information.

Charles Wells' book indexing the pensioners in the 1890 Veterans' Census lists a David Anderson in Pike County, KY, living near the Mouth Card Post Office. Notation: "Drowned off a boat."

Wife's pension application of 1891 reports he "drowned in the Ohio River on his way to Lexington, Ky., while in the line of his duty" 28 Aug 1864.

Military records report him AWOL 15 Sept., 1865, and "Sick in Ashland, Ky., hospital at muster-out of company."

Also serving were David's sons, George W., Private Company C, died Feb. 29th, 1864, at Louisa, KY; James, Private Company C; Miles J., Corporal Company C, deserted August 12, 1864, at Louisa, KY.
