                    Characters:
In Riven there are many interesting people and creatures that you can meet.  Some of them provide vital clues to help you.  This page lists the characters, their locations, and a bit of other info.
Note: Myst characters will be added later.
Atrus:  Atrus is the man who invented the linking books.  He has sent you to Riven to                     investigate some strange occurences.  You will only see him at the
beginning and end of the game, but listen carefully to what he says.
Ghen: Ghen is your typical evil villian typish guy.  He tried to kill his son, then
imprisoned Atrus's daughter Cathrine.  He wants you to find
him the linking book that was stolen from you at the beginning
so that he can escape from this age where Atrus imprisoned
him.  By listening to him, you learn much more about the plot
of the game as well as some inevitable disasters threatening
                                     the age of Riven.

You may recognize this building on the right.  This is Ghen's lab on Riven,
containing his failed attempts at linking books and some research notes
that are VITAL clues to unwinding some of the codes.  The picture on the
upper left is the inside.

TIP: If you have not gotten into Ghens lab, throw the lever on the walkway before the lab, then look carefully around the frog trap area. (Up is a direction too)
"Cho": Cho is an unfortunate civilian whom you see at the beginning of the game, who's not a little surprised to find you.  After jabbering at you for a while in the D'ni language, he steals your linking book that would take you back home and is then shot by a Moeity Rebellion Trooper, who then takes the book from him in turn and releases you from your cage.  Not much to learn from him, exept for don't steal linking books from strangers.
Moeity people - They live inside the large structure to
the left.  One of the linking books you find in the fire
marble domes takes you to their age, where you are
promptly shot with a poisoned dart.  When you wake
up inside their dwelling you will be able to find much
vital information, only one tidbit being the code to open the portal beneath the telescope. Because the speak D'ni, you can't learn alot from them themselves, so keep a weather eye out for books and journals. Sorry to be vague, but explore their age yourself.
Text on Cathrine coming soon, as well as a better picture, I hope.
Creatures
In Riven there are many creatures, from the idolized Wahrk to the peaceful Sunners.  Most of them are mearly for fun, while a few provide small clues to different riddles.  Look around each thoroughly.
Sunner: These peaceful creatures rest on the rocks at the bottom of the stairs on jungle island.  If you approach them slowly, you may be rewarded with an up-close look.  Be sure to explore the beach around them.
Wahrk (Above): This menacing fish is idolized on the jungle island of Riven.  On the island, there is a large wooden idol of it tucked away in a corner of the forest (below).  Also, several carvings and a small wooden contraption imply that the people mak human sacrifices to it.  If you want a look, find the room on survey island that has the large window underwater, and fiddle around with the knobs and buttons on the chair until it visits.

Note: Have a closer look at the two lamps on the path nearest
to the Wahrk idol in the forest.
Ytram (Left): These cute little frog-beasts are not important to the game, but it's fun to try to catch one.  Just go to the trap on Boiler Island (below), put one of the bait pellets on it, and pull the lever.  (If it doesn't work, you probably need to go to the switch in the middle of the lake and divert it's flow
towards the trap by dragging
it as far right as you can.
