Main Characters: Ogawa Kae and Goshima Masayuki
This is an excellent manga and IMHO, pretty much
understated by many.
Kae detests having to go for piano lessons but she keeps at it just for the sake of seeing her very talented, handsome, sarcastic, chain-smoking teacher. (^_^;) Problem is, he sees her only as a kid and a student - but things start to change when he's forced to see that 5 years have flown past and she's actually a young lady now. No longer the little brat that hid under the piano at the first lesson.

He initially thinks that his feelings towards her are paternal, but after she confesses her feelings (and forces a kiss on him ^_^) he knows that he's got affections for her as well.

Then there's the frustration on Kae's part, where she feels she's being patronised from time to time. And with Sensei's heavy working schedule, they hardly have the time to meet for a long promised date, much to Kae's disappointment. She starts wondering if he does indeed feel the same way towards her.

Kae's uncle, a famous photographer, returns from the States and is immediately against their relationship. He feels that Sensei is unsuitable both in age and character, in short, he's a bad influence on Kae. The ironic thing is that he acknowledges that he and Sensei are of the same species ^_^ There are also different competitors for Kae's affections, but Kae remains faithfully focused on Sensei.

Suzuki Rou, a young talented pianist, happens to meet Kae at the cinema and falls for her. He challenges Sensei to a piano competition. They are to play - Habanera from the Opera Carmen, as earlier on, Kae mentioned that she liked that piece. Surprisingly, Sensei accepts the juvenile dare, much to Kae's dismay. She starts worrying if he intends to give her up, using the competition as an excuse. As Sensei is a man of few words, he just tries to reassure her by giving her a lingering kiss, with an unspoken promise.

You get the impression that Sensei DOES care for her in his own way. He's not one to swear undying love, but through his actions (well.... you have to be paying attention I guess... ^_^ ) his affection for Kae shows.

My ONLY complaint about this manga is that it is TOO SHORT! Well, maybe cos it was Matsumoto Sensei's first piece of work.... but I still think that it could have developed further, the end seemed a little abrupt and anticlimatic.
