BEFORE BEGINNING, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
Make sure that you maintain the crate on the 4x4 wooden blocks at all times after you have cut out your door. Keep the lid always on the top; do not tip the crate on its side to use the lid as a door for the dog. If you tip the crate over on its side off of the 4x4, it will rot faster and the crate will get water in it easier.  The lid is way too large decreasing the amount of shelter that is provided for the dog’s protection from the elements. This is why you want to cut a smaller hole in the crate for the dog to go in and out of.

TO DO:

1. Apply plastic to the top of the lid and staple down.
2. Use a heavy duty staple gun, the kind used for housing contract work and staple the plastic down.
3. Screw the hinges on the lid (over the plastic) of the crate to hold it on so the wind won’t blow it off and you can open the crate to clean it out as needed. A handle can be purchased if wanted and added at this time)
4. Use the baling twine that was given to you and staple the twine down in a zig zag pattern on top of the plastic to hold it down.
5.  Use a tape measure and measure out the size of your door for the dog and then draw your lines between the points so that you can cut out the door.
6. Use a hand drill and drill a large hole in the area of where the door will be for your pet to enter and exit the crate.
7. Insert the blade of the miter saw into the hole that you just drilled and then cut to the line that you made on the wood where you want the outside edges of your door to be.
8. Simply follow your line and cut out the door.
9. Set the crate back up in to the 4x4 wooden block. This will keep the wood floor of the crate from rotting.
10. Using a water sealant that comes in a can and paint it on the crate with the paintbrush to seal the wood which will provide even more durability and weathering.
