Dogs

At present we share our home with 2 dogs Anja (GSD) and Sam, 2 naughty kittens called Boots and Sooty, a gerbil, a Lovebird, a Leopard Gecko and numerous fis and we are also pleased to announce the arrival of Bella. She is our new German Shepherd puppy, she was born in October and will be long-coated and BIG! Her name of course was the choice of the youngest members of the family who are staunch Tweenies fans.

Jasper 26.3.1986-8.11.2000 Bella aged 9 weeks

My beloved boy died on the 8th November 2000. To all who met him he left a special memory, a unique gift. He was a faithful companion to me throughout his 14 years and I could never wish for a better friend. Sleep peacefully Jasper until we can be together again.

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.

I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.

I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.

I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.

I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me".

You looked so very tired and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you every day. To say to you with certainty "I never went away".

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew..... in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over.....I smile and watch you yawning and say "Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out.....then come home to be with me.

John and I met through our mutual passion for German Shepherds and while we are not so active on the GSD scene as we used to be they still remain a great interest of ours. Jasper was my ‘baby’ – never was and never will be 'just a dog!', he was bought for me on my 19th birthday and finally gace up his fight just before Christmas 2000. Until the last couple of years of his life he was a complete idiot. When he was 3 he even managed to slip a disc and came very close to having to be put to sleep. In the end he was treated at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. In those days they had only performed the operation on horses but tried it on our Jasper. In very basic terms he had the affected discs removed and his back was pinned. It all worked amazingly well. The vets there told that us that this operation would only increase his life for a few years and he would be lucky to reach 5 before it happened again – so what an achievement living to 14. He is greatly missed and there will never be another one like him..

Anja and Sam

Anja was a bit of an impulse buy, not always a successful one. She is almost 7 now and still exhibits symptoms of ‘puppyhood’ – you know the kind of thing, eating walls, chewing washing etc etc etc. When she was younger I had hopes of taking her to agility training, but she has shown her reluctance to join in as she staunchly refuses ever to jump – unless of course into a stagnant pond or muddy puddle. We will be expanding on this page but for now have included several of our favourite ‘doggy’ links
