Before Chassis and Suspension
After stripping the cab, bed, drive train and sheet metal from the frame we carefully scraped, wire wheeled and pressure washed the chassis.  From this picture you can see the location of the stock single exhaust pipe and muffler.  Also, the emergency brake mechanism and cables are clearly shown.  I wasn't able to reuse the stock e-brake mechanism because the new transmission mount needed to be mounted in approximately the same location.  As a result the cross member and e-brake mechanism has to be redesigned.  (This still  needs to be done)

This is a detail view showing the e-brake cable attachment to the frame.
This is a detail view of the 'Before' frame and rear suspension.  This vintage truck has excellent stock suspension which makes it desireable to hot rod because there isn't complex suspension 'clips' or brakes required.  As can be seen, the rear springs are progressivley wound coils which account for the excellent ride quality.  In order to lower the rear end by the desired 4 inches I replaced these springs with a set from Early Classic.   The long trailing arms contribute to the stability of the 12 bolt rear assembly.
This is a close up of the rear coil spring and the flexibile brake line that feed the rear brake assembly.
