Are You

Are you a person that just feels like you are not creative, or not as creative as others are? I hear this from people quite often. EVERYONE has creative potential in them, for the Master Creator made us to be much like Him.

"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness"
Genesis 1:26

We have been created ourselves in the image of the Creator of the entire universe. He who created everything from the largest stars to the smallest details of the tiny ladybugs also created you and made you to be like Him. Even though we are very small in comparison to the Almighty, it stands to reason that you and I would have inherited at least some spark of His creativity.

Perhaps, in some of us our creativity just lays dormant, while in others it is screaming to be used. Creativity is like a muscle and just like a muscle, the more it is used and stretched, the stronger it becomes. Many have never tried to stretch their creative muscle and find it much easier to claim that they are just not creative. There is so much joy in being creative, though! It takes stepping out into the unknown and testing the waters. It is much easier to let someone else come up with all the creative ideas. If the ideas fail, then we are not responsible. It can be intimidating to step out with a creative idea of your own and share it with others. Maybe others will think it is silly. Maybe they will, but some of the best ideas ever discovered were originally laughed at, but over time were proven to be of great value.

So, how do we tap into the creative potential that we possess?

STEPS TO CREATIVITY:

Determine where your creative energy needs to be focused.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention. What is necessary in your life? What areas do you need fresh new ideas? This could be a difficult problem in your life or a simple matter of wanting to redecorate a room of your home.

Find time to be in your "Quiet Place."
This is where you close out the distractions of the world and recharge.

Write your ideas down.
You can use a pretty journal or an old notebook, but it is important to write down what is floating around in your head. I know that for myself, it is hard to keep my thoughts on track when they are all jumbled together in my mind. Great ideas may get lost and forgotten if they are not written down.

Look at things from a different perspective.
Some of the best creative ideas around are just a new twist on an old idea. Take an existing idea or solution and think of way to adapt it.

Have confidence that you were designed with creative ability.
Remember that He, who created you, specially designed you.
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb" Psalm 139:13
And He has given you the unique ability to solve whatever tasks are before you.

Seek God.
He wants to give you wisdom in all situations.
"If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to all people, so He will give you wisdom. But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt." James 1:5-6
