Congratulations to Gloria Stepp! ASID Access Challenge Winner Spring 2007! |
ACHIEVEMENTS |
Here was the challenge: Design a hold-over area in an airport that is a private, rentable space. This hold over space must be 10-by-10 ft in dimensions and must include a bathroom (with shower, toilet and sink), a place to rest and the ability to connect to the internet. |
The brief was tight, the allowed square footage even tighter! Gloria was able to tackle the many challenges set out in the brief and design an attractive, warm, inviting, as well as functional space that would refresh even the weariest of travelers. |
I found out about the student competition through an email from ASID and briefly thought, I think I could do that and I think I could win. Then I proceeded to move through the rest of my emails and pushed it to the back of my mind, not really planning to enter. The description in the contest read, Be creative. Be innovative. Be cutting edge. I was not so sure I could pull that off all at once. I am typically logical and straight thinking, albeit a little creative at times, but I had doubts about stretching my abilities that far. However, the cash prize of $500.00 the winner would receive would not let me forget and I soon began playing around with various floor plans. |
