A DAY FOLLOWING THE
ONKAPARINGA RIVER
We live in the Onkaparinga Valley, and for some time Brady has been interested in where the river goes, so we spent a Sunday following the river from the valley, past Mylor, past the Mount Bold Reservoir, past the Onkaparinga Gorge, and past the river flats at Noarlunga, to the sea. It was a long day, but a real eye-opener for Brady and Cooper and a lot of fun.
Here's the Onkaparinga River at Oakbank, our hometown, just below the confluence of the Western Branch and the main branch, where the river doubles in size.
This suspension bridge, which we walked across, spans the river just below the dam wall (which we also walked across) at Mount Bold Reservoir, which is the storage for half of the Adelaide metropolitan area, and is currently at the lowest level Helen or I have ever seen it at.
On top of the cliffs of the Onkaparinga Gorge. This is a popular spot for the Adelaide rock climbing fraternity, and I have spent many enjoyable afternoons on these cliffs. The gorge is about 15km long, is very scenic and has lots of walking trails. Cooper is not really tired, he just likes to clown around.
At the mouth of the gorge is the picturesque town of Old Noarlunga, with lawns and playgrounds on the riverbank.
