Research projects in course:
Presently, research is being undertaken to study in more detail the relevant processing parameters for the production of electrically conductive polymer composites by means of an in-situ deformation process. What is sought is to create one or many electro-conductive fibrillar (or lamellar) structures embedded within an insulating polymer matrix, and aligned parallel to the composite’s main axial direction so as to produce an anisotropically conductive composite with antistatic properties, and with potential applications in the carpets and textile industries. The approach followed consists in applying the concepts that explain the in-situ formation of fibrillar (or lamellar) structures of an intrinsically electro-conducting polymer, namely doped polyaniline, in the bulk of an insulating polymer matrix by using one single process and instrument. This study is of fundamental importance because, in the event of having encouraging results, it would serve to establish a suitable processing route for the production of these kinds of materials by means of a simple and effective method.
