Site 4: Cedar Valley, Utah
July 27, back at home base in Lehi, UT. The night looks like it's going to be clear, so we are going to a dark spot in Cedar Valley [40d10m16s N 111d56m05s W Alt.4645'].

We are right along the road, but there are few cars, one every 15 minutes or so. Transparency is the issue tonight since there is a fairly large brush fire to the north. This does, however, make for a beautiful thin crescent moon. It is very red, similar to the color I have seen it during a lunar eclipse. Around 10:00, we are startled by some coyotes howling nearbye. I hit the Veil Nebula again. It's not as good as from Jackson. From 52 cyg I can follow it several degrees north, but lose it fairly quickly going south. I observed what I thought was the western portion as egg-shaped, but I was not far enough west and this was still part of the eastern portion that I later identified as "Pickerings Triangular Wisp". Observed the Trifid Nebula, just barely. By this time there were clouds coming in, the smoke was getting thicker to the north and travelling south  and my observing partner and I were just about falling asleep on our feet, so we called it a night.

All in all, it was a good trip but not as good as I expected. As they say, WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR (or at least the next time I can get out here).
