St. Michael the Archangel
ST. JOAN OF ARC "LA PUCELLE"
St Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel,
Defend us in battle,
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
And do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
By the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
Who wander through the world
For the ruin of souls. Amen
    I've liked St Matthew for a number of reasons. He was chosen by Jesus despite being hated among his own people as a collaborator with the Romans. It is Saint Matthew's gospel which presents Jesus as Christ the King, the Son of David, who fulfilled the prophecy of a perfect monarch. He goes to great length to prove the descent of Jesus from the sacred Royal House of David.
      My dear St Joan of Arc, the only one of these who has her own section on the website, has so much to teach us. Her life is a lesson and an inspiration. Particularly for a Christian monarchist St Joan sets the perfect example. She fought to restore the one and only King of France, Charles VII, not because he was a good man, not because she hated the English, not out of some sense of French nationalism, but simply because God told her to do so, and because Charles was the only legitimate ruler for the French people. She let no obstacle stand in her way, and was never swayed by the impossible odds arrayed against her. She was only a teenage, peasant girl of the Middle Ages, who knew nothing about combat, yet she took her countrymen into battle for God and the Dauphin, destroyed the invaders and placed Charles VII on the throne. She also kept faith even when things went wrong and when corrupt Church officials accused her of heresy. Her example will undoubtedly inspire many others for centuries to come.
