"I
paint my own reality, not what is seen with the eyes. I seek
answers to unexplained
questions that most people dare not to ask." |

Renata Kohoutova Haagsma was born in
the Czech Republic, in the town of Zlin in Southern Moravia.
She came to Canada in 1995. She developed a passion for the
visual arts at a young age by observing her grandfather, who was a
landscape painter, and from her father's love of photography. |
|
Her paintings are abstract expressions
of human conflict and emotions. She uses bold colours in ink,
acrylics and oils to transform simple, child-like figures into
thought-provoking abstract images. Her works often draw upon
themes from literary works, especially Gogol, Dostoevsky, Cechov,
and Guy de Maupassant. |
