           Karachi is the capital of the province of Sindh as well as Pakistan's commercial capital. It enjoys a splendid natural harbor, one of the best in the subcontinent. The port handles some 15 billion tones of cargo annually and is one of the most important shipping centers in South Asia. Karachi is also the main terminus of Pakistan's railway system. About a quarter of the nation's industry is located here.

       Karachi's charm is hard to define. At one level it is a harsh mercantile city with all the brash, skin-deep self-assurance of the "nouveau riche"; at another level its complex, colorful bazaars bespeak an ancient oriental tradition of barter and exchange; at still another level it is the most advanced city in Pakistan, boasting advanced educational institutions.         Of course, Karachi is a fine holiday resort in its own right and many visitors to Pakistan never venture out of its boundaries. The city enjoys year-round sunshine and has extensive facilities for yachting, sailing, skin-diving, tennis, squash, cricket, hockey and other games and sports. There are also a number of white-sand beaches lapped by the warm waters of the Arabian Sea. The picture that you see above is the Mausoleum of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. This bustling center of commerce and industry with diversified population of over ten million plays a vital role in the economy of the country. 

The People living in Karachi speak different languages like Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Siraeki, Pushto, Gujrati, Kathiawari (Memoni), Kachhi, Baluchi etc.

The Quaid-e-Azam International Airport is a major link on all east and west air routes. The air traffic remains on round the clock.

The Railway Station of Karachi depicts memorable scenes of arrival and departure of the passengers. 

Shining sunny beaches at Sand spit, Hawks Bay, Paradise Point and Clifton offers exciting activities like sailing, surfing and crabbing.

National Museum located in the oldest area of the town reminds the glorious past of the nation. This is the most prestigious museum in Pakistan housing the artifacts from the old civilizations and the modern Pakistan movement’s relics.

Beautiful Parks are the center of outing activities of people particularly children. The most popular are Aziz Bhatti Park, Aladdin Park, Safari Park (all located in Gulshn-e-Iqbal area), Play Land at Clifton, Sinbad fun fair at Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Zoo at Garden area.

The sports activities of the nation can be witnessed at Golf courses, squash complex, National Stadium of cricket and Hockey Ground.

The city inherits a large variety of modern and colonial architecture. Though there are very few tall buildings in Karachi but the modern architecture is matured and highly sophisticated. Here are many beautiful mosques, Mausoleums, Churches and Libraries.

Medical complexes like Agha Khan Hospital, Zia-u-din Hospital, Taj Complex, Mideast Hospital, OMI, Liaqat National Hospital, Jinnah and Civil Hospital are rendering their services for providing health facilities to the citizens.

Edhi Foundation of Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi originated from this city, is playing major welfare role for the residents without any discrimination. Besides there are many other NGOs who are putting their services for such a noble cause. 

The major shopping centers and bazaars of this city are the most attractive places. The typical oriental style of bazaars with colors and narrow streets offers a vast variety of goods. One of the major tourist attraction is the mini busses and auto rickshaws of Karachi which are seen every where and present a whole art gallery of colors in them.

The Religious buildings like mosques, temples and cathedrals further enhance the beauty of the city.

The famous personalities of the city are Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Jamshid Mehta, Hassan Ali Effendi, Seth Haji Abdullah Haroon and Hatim Alvi, who played a major role for this city in the history.
