This page will feature articles related to MECCG.
It could be a web site, a review of a player guide, past meccg products etc...
Ever since Iron Crown Enterprise (ICE) ceased producing and selling MECCG and other Middle Earth related products in the latter part of 1999, tournaments and events for MECCG has dwindled. In the Western states, MECCG is viewed as a dying, if not yet dead, game. Or is it? With a recently released board game  and a movie based on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy coming in the horizon, Middle Earth CCG seems to be getting renewed attention from old and new fans alike. Read on friends!

Red Arrow's Mark Presents:

GAMEX 2001

News must get through
Here I am again bringing tidings of a tournament  from Gamex 2001 last May. Held during last Memorial Weekend at the Westin Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Players came from Both Northern and Southern California as well as  Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Participants
Organized by Anthony Barrett the tournament was a three round sealed deck event. We just had the right number for the tourney.  There were six participants to this meccg tournament. They were Anthony and Thomas Barrett, Ben Canlas, Ralph Montano, Michael Urban, and Mitch Teague. Four participants were there from the last OrcCon convention and two new ones that I've just met which were Ralph and Mitch.

So where are the cards?
Ben who was bringing the cards got a little late which made Anthony the organizer of the event a little nervous. Enter Bryant Luba who participated last OrcCon. Anthony thought Bryant to be Ben and was asking Bryant for the cards who looked bewildered when asked. He was just there to tell he won't be able to play that evening. Uh oh, contructed deck tournament anyone? So everyone started to get out their own constructed decks. Anyway Ben came in at the same time and it became a sealed deck again. Whewww!

A bunch of elves
Each of us got a starter deck and three boosters of our choice from either The Wizards or The Dragons expansion. Everyone was excited to begin that Anthony had to remind everyone not to open their starter and boosters yet. When we did start opening the boosters everyone was telling which characters they were getting. Mitch noticed that just about everyone had a big elf on their decks. Yep Elrond was there, Glorfindel, Thranduil, Cirdan and Celeborn.

I did a lot better this tournament compared to my first. Last time even though I had fun, my game was not up to par. This time I had fun and my games were okay! I lost my first game against Anthony Barrett by just one point! Oh man! One of my characters scampered away with a sword of gondolin during the free council. Tough luck, yeah. But man was that fun. My other two games were decided  more by how the cards turned up for the players. I won my second round by a good many points which landed me second as far as the points were considered. But then I lost my third game by a big number of points and never made it to the top three. Oh, well. Better luck next time.

Interesting Map
On a side note Ben Canlas brought ICE region maps courtesy of  James Kight as well as the homemade map by James and Spencer Carney. Everyone thought that the homemade map was great! Though it didn't have the fantastic art of Joe Hartwig like the original. it was as James Kight described it, "simple but effective". So true!

A slice of life
During the third and final round another amusing if not funny thing ocurred. Michael Urban was facing of against Thomas Barrett. Yes the same kid that creamed me during my first tournament. I don't know who was winning and never did find out but during their game the dice fell of the table and it was funny how both the young and the younger had to get out from their seats to find out what the result was. Unfortunately though, the dice did not reveal anything. I think it hit the wall and it was in a position where you can or can't call a number. So they were discussing it until they were told to roll the dice again. Don't know who got the good end there but I think it was just one of those things that made the event perfect.

The victor
In the end there can be only one... ooops! wrong ccg... anyway in the end three stood mighty. Mitch Teague got third, Thomas Barrett got second and Anthony Barrett got first place.
