Queen Isabella

Queen of Castile (1474--1504), born in Madrigal de las Altas Torras, Spain, the daughter of John II, King of Castile and León. In 1469 she married Ferdinand V of Aragon, with whom she ruled jointly from 1479. During her reign, the Inquisition was introduced (1478), the reconquest of Granada completed (1482--92), and the Jews expelled (1492). She sponsored the voyage of Christopher Columbus to the New World.
