I am gradually putting the family tree onto this site. From here you can link to information about particular ancestors or relatives, or their websites. Raymond's Travel Page
This site contains several of my Travel Stories and Journals. These range from rough travel diaries to carefully-written stories. Some have nice photos, but many are text only, as we stopped carrying a camera with us at some stage of our travels. I'm gradually adding photos to them when I have access to a scanner. As I now have a digital camera, photos will be a regular part of any new travels reported. Most of the travel journals are now on a site called Travelpod, but of course all the links are on the Travel Page.

Falling Windows
Here we are relaxing at a friend's place. Freya was teaching in Brunei when we were there and came to Hong Kong a year before us with her husband, Bill. They have now left Hong Kong.

There is a continuing problem here with windows falling out of old apartment buildings. This happened to Freya one day when she opened her bedroom window. It just fell out and crashed to the ground several floors below. There was a long drawn-out police investigation.

By chance, Freya and Bill were visiting us at our hotel when she got a call on her mobile from the police, who wanted her to come to the station that evening. Yoong spoke to the officer on the phone, as she could speak the language. She pointed out that Freya was heavily pregnant and should not be put under any stress. She also pointed out that all Freya had done was open a window and that she was not to blame for the accident.
The police officer agreed with all that but insisted that she go to the station, where they had organised for interpreters to be present. When she arrived there she was promptly arrested.

When the case eventually got to court, she took her lawyer's advice and pleaded guilty so she could pay her fine and put it all behind her.

We have since read of several cases of windows falling out of buildings and the government's plans to do something about the problem. A number of cases resulted in arrests, so our friend is not the only one who is guilty of opening windows.

When we want to open the windows of our hotel room we have to fill in forms in triplicate. I don't think there is any danger of them falling out. It is more a concern about people who might want to jump from the twenty-first floor to escape the stress of Hong Kong life.

Of course, all the a bove is out of date. Now we are in our own (rented) apartment and can open windows whenever we want. And being a brand new building we don't expect them to fall out.
