Worlds Fastest Rascal !!

TOMCAT 1,2,3 were taken on the Merrimack River in NH in the fall of 93.  Tom Cat is a RASCAL that has been significantly modified for owner Joel Bedell.  A highly modified 59cid racing engine with jack plate, trim unit, dual throttle controls, burning CAM2 at 7000+RPM allowed 68mph on launching day, with the hull exhibiting not even a quirky tendency.  The hull showed no bad tendencies.  Joel has since installed yet another highly modified engine, yet still ~230 lbs, and runs the boat at 71mph.  Joel is a lifelong outboard enthusiast/collector and an expert driver.  In general, the design was an extreme variation of the original, with internal aluminum weldments forming the  transom knees, a pair of lifting strakes, and an arc-bottom ski keel.  The cowl was a vast improvement over the original windshield. The pods aft of the transom helped obscure the engine trimming mechanism and added to the radical tumblehome at the transom.  Plans are currently not available.  Photo credit: Ken Bassett

Christchurch New Zealand

builder Martin Young, I built my Rascal during the early 90s and launched it in January 1996. I built it in my lounge which is a very nice way to build boats, Rascal was the second boat I put together in that lounge, I have since got a larger house and workshop and married with a daughter. We live in Christchurch New Zealand and enjoy our boat on the lakes of New Zealand's south island. Last year I cut a hatch and installed a rumble seat into the forward deck of our boat to give our daughter a seat of her own and not be squashed between my wife and I in the cockpit, the seat base is the hatch which fits back into the deck and bolts down with a chromed flange keeping the classic look and becoming a two seater again, I found the forward weight in the boat good for trim. We really enjoy our Rascal, it performs really well and attracts a lot of attention where ever we take it, regards,

sweet pea

builder Steve Gembrowski, "sweet pea" was launched in may 2005, at the bay city yacht club , at the mouth of the Saginaw river , in bay city michigan .hull planking was vacuum bagged, and has no fasteners in the planking , she has 4 speaker stereo sound ,with remote, a full complement of faria gauges including depth sounder, gauges are set in ebony bezels. i installed a teak grate in the floor in front of the seat to get any water into the bilge faster, and i used mushroom cleats for a clean snag free side decks. i entered her in the Presque Isle wooden boat show, and took 1st place in the contemporary classic division. you can contact me at airnut572@yahoo.com
