A common problem has been seen on many systems while using AM Messenger. The problem symptoms are like a 'Register' button fails to open the dialog, Preference dialog does not show and mother of all the 'AM Messenger / AM Server does not starts.

This kind of problem is related with missing library files. Hopefully a special patch to solve these issue is online for past 2 months and many of you may not be aware of it. The package name is 'Patch for AM Messenger' and is available from almost all sites were you can get AM Messenger. Please find the link at main page of any of http://www.oocities.org/ranjandd2002/ , http://am-messenger.zendfree.com , http://am-messenger.aokhost.com or http://ranjan.0fees.net .

Additionally i am posting one small application AM Error Decoder, which can decode any error log generated at application folder 'error.log' file. This will decode and let you see what is the cause of problem so that you can locate a fix at your site. Mostly the above package should be sufficient to solve the problem.

   I have downloaded both server and client versions of am mssngr. I have installed in both server and client. I have a small network of 10 pc connected in domain. In the client side the chat window is showing the error plese check server settings. I have not changed any settings from the server.
Please help me to solve the issue..
( i have just installed the clnt and servers in 2 diff pc)

First of all leave client and see the server. You must provide the following setting in server:


Configure Server Side

1. On server click 'configure' button to open the setting dialog.
2. The connection string (i have included a readme.txt in install packag and must be in app directory). You can use eithe MS Access or Sql server. Please follow the text file and configure it. No Red label(on server main window) should come if database connection is fine.
3. Provide a Primary Url: Ex - www.myweb.com or 192.168.2.3
   Your case suites seconds one provide the ip address of the system on which the server is installed.
4. Primary Port (Default 6570 must be ok on your system but you can change it to other if server does not turns yellow in status bar)
5. Secondary url, Secondary port ,Data port (Required for file transfer but it is not production quality) are optional.
6. Max Client :set it to 15 as u have 10 pc ..5 spare (Please dont make it 0 otherwise u cannot connect even if server is running fine)
7. Max Offline Msg: 20 (This is a practical value it can be any from 1 up to thousands ..but limit below 100)
8. Max Inactive Time: set it to 3-5 minutes
9. Please see the attached image, this might help you...

1. Choose from menu
   Configure > Server..
2. The dialog displays the settings u have saved so far (Max up to 3 settings)
   Ensure that atleast one server setting is there and it matches the Url (Ex 192.168.2.1 ) and port (6570 or whaterver you have selected in server) . these two settings must match on both server and client.
3. Since it is startup please check the check box next to the correct url and port as default and press save. (In case of multiple server settings u can select an active server for the upcoming session from login screen by clicking round AM image)
4. Now start the login screen by either hitting the enter key of menu or click on the 'SignIn' Now U might see the status bar left corner with a yellow tick (Check).. If it is so..u r done..
5. But you need at least two users to chat so please create profiles by clicking the 'Register' button on login form. Ask your co-worker to repeat same for himself and so on..
6. Once you have registered ..u need to login and add friends by various buttons /menu links...
