| I do watercolor paintings that are simple and graphic in style. My painting style has evolved out of my technical training, in illustration and design, into keeping things graphic with lines, forms, and shapes. My formal training has influenced the way I see things and the basic design I use. By exaggerating color, using dramatic contrast, and a variety of shapes, I produce eye-catching images. A technique called negative painting is familiar within my work and combined with luminescent color, preserved whites, and strong design, I make bold representations. The Rainy Lake landscape and wildlife are my subject matter and I distill this complex scenery into simple visual compositions. I want my watercolor paintings to attract more public awareness to the natural environment, wildlife, and it's crucial preservation, for which I care deeply. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I'm a graduate of Bemidji State University in Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Technical Illustration and Commercial Design. In 1999 I became a full time painter and work daily in my loft studio with north light. I live in Fort Frances, Ontario and have two children. Favoring the natural world as my subject, I work mostly in watercolor. My paintings often evolve in series and I've done many commissions from architectural renderings to pet portraits. I've had gallery representation and solo exhibitions. My work hangs in private collections throughout the U.S. and Canada. |
