Hi Brenton: This is a great site. I'm always comming here to see if there are more pictures. Would you be interested in a picture of my big Trachy here in Troutdale? I have one in the front that's eleven or twelve feet and one in the back that's five feet. Also growing p. canariensis, washingtonia filifera, and robusta by the hundreds in my basement along with a few trachies, livistonia chinensis and a brahea armata. -Tim

If you're ever in the Parkrose district of Portland there's an entire neighborhood growing cacti in their front yards and parking strips. I got a start from one for my ca tus garden in Kings Valley. I was raised in eugene,or.I know of many large trachy specimens.On franklin bvld.,across from U of O stands 6 planted in a row.On baliey hill road starting at 18th. street going south in front of kennedy junior high , 3 stand at a home.Further down the st eet stands many more scattered throughout the homes on the south side.

Hey, Brenton... I just thought I'd mention that I might get to see Medford in a couple months. In late January (probably), I'm going to visit a woman friend who now works at the National Weather Service up there. It'll likely be a quick trip (2-3 days), but it'll still be interesting to see a zone 8 area (since I've either lived in much colder zone 6a climates or much milder zone 10 climates all my life). Since it will be mid-winter, it'll be easier to pick out the (generally) less hardy broadleaf evergreens and those ery scattered palms up there since the deciduous trees will be leafless. Brilliant site you´ve got! Did you know that the Southern Spanish town of ELCHE ( ALICANTE ) has got the biggest concentration of phoenix dactilipherae in the whole of Europe ? This is a great site. Lots of great photos, links, and information. Where were you when I was living in Oregon? The first palm I saw growing in Portland was in about 1965. It's still there. I'm sure you know about it. It's on NE Glisan and 26th Ave. There are also a couple of nice ones on SE Belmont and 62nd. If you ever get the chance (this is something I've always planned on researching) look in old issues of The Oregonian for a planting of very tall Washingtonias that were planted on Sandy Blvd (I think back in the early 70's (I think) in front of a company that I beleive was called ESCO. Not much help am I? The were each planted in individual dismountable "greenhouses" that were removed after winter. They were touted as being the most northern palm tre s. I'm not sure what happened to them. But I think it must've gotten so cold one winter that the "greenhouses" cracked or something. They were extreemly impressive to drive by and see. Are you familiar with a very tall Trachy on the road between Williams nd Grants Pass? It almost looks like a Washingtonia. It's on the right hand side of the road driving towards Grants Pass. Behind a tall hedge, I think. Do you live in Grants Pass? Those palms on your website. Where are they? I was told about a large Rhapi olphyllum in Eugene and even given directions but of course, have lost them once I moved to California. Sorry, I'm not much help but maybe I've whetted your appetite. Lastly, how did the Washingtonias weather this past winter in Roseburg? I hope they surv ved because they're beautiful specimens. Especially considering they're growing inland from the coast.

Hello there, wonderful site! I especially enjoyed the "Southern Oregon University Palms" section. My daughter is thinking of going to school there and your page came up in the search (incidentally I searched for "Southern Oregon University Palm Trees", nd up came your site). I've been trying to grow palms here in Fairbanks with little success. I thought maybe since it's about February I'd bring them inside and they've been thriving ever since, the tag at the nursery said nothing about it being a "zone " or above plant, those darn hippy clerks!
