In this section: What is Size acceptance?Size acceptance is the accepting of yourself for the size you are, not forcing yourself to subscribe, mentally and physically, to the unrealistic body sizes that are thrust onto us by the main stream media. It is being happy with what you are, regardless of the package you are in. Size acceptance does not endorses weight loss as a means to making your self happier with your body, but it does support and endorse the idea of making your body as happy and healthy as it can be. Size acceptance supports exercise and healthy choice at any size, but this is a personal choice. Size acceptance is not just for fat people, but in a fat phobic world, fat people need to accept themselves and their size, or risk the unhappiness and related problems of hating themselves and their body. Size acceptance is also for those who are below normal size, or all people who support the idea that size does not equal your personal worth. While size
acceptance
is about personal choices, it is also about supporting others to get
the
best possible environment for their self acceptance. This could mean
ending
size discrimination and supporting more comfortable social and working
environment this could be through more access to a variety of clothes
[including
safety equipment], access to comfortable furniture and space, ending
verbal
harassment) and making the world more size accepting, a diversity of
different
sized people in our magazine, on our television and movie screens,
telling
the stories of different sized people without making their size an easy
laugh or stereotype of gluttonous behavior..
