Spells of House Sirecchia

Innocenti's Bells of Alarm

Level: 1

School: Alteration

Range: 0

Duration: 6 turns

Area of Effect: All living humanoids in sight

Components: S

Casting Time: 2

Saving Throw: None

This spell was invented by Prince Innocenti the Malapietra as a mean of defense against assassins. This weaker version of ESP alerts the caster of any human or humanlike beings who think of killing him, by a ringing sound heard only by the caster.

The spell has one terrible flaw. It does not discriminate between people who are about to assassin the caster and those who just think of killing him in a temporary rage or a passing thought. Many members of House Sirecchia were wrongfully killed for their thoughts of Innocenti...

Lucrecia's Marble Flesh

Level: 3

School: Alteration, Elemental Earth

Range: 0

Duration: 2 turns/level

Area of Effect: Caster's body

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 4

Saving Throw: None

This spell gives to the caster's skin a marble tone, and makes the flesh firmer. Lucrecia di Malapietra uses it for cosmetic purposes only, but the spell is also useful as a defense, since it provides an Armor Class of 5, due to the harder flesh.

Material component is a sphere of marble sphere 1 inch in diameter.

Lucrecia's Crystal Nails

Level: 2

School: Alteration, Elemental Earth

Range: 0

Duration: 2 turns/level

Area of Effect: Caster's nails

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 3

Saving Throw: None

This is another cosmetic spell from Lucrecia di Malapietra. When the spell is cast, the caster's nails, both from fingers and toes, alter their structure to match that of the crystal used as material component. If the caster has long and pointed nails, she can now make two attacks each round.

If a diamond is used in the casting, the nails inflict a maximum of 1-4 points damage with each hand. If a stone of the hardness of corundum (sapphire, ruby) is used, the nails cause 1d3 points of damage. Stones of the hardness of topaz (emerald, beryl) makes the nails cause 1d2 points of damage, while the minimum damage of 1 point per attack can be made if stones of the hardness of quartz (amethyst, agate, garnet, carnelian, chalcedony) are used. Stones lesser than this cannot be used for the spell.

Bartolomeo's Brilliant Gemstone Surfaces

Level: 3

School: Illusion, Elemental Earth

Range: 10 feet/level

Duration: 1 turn/level

Area of Effect: 1 square foot/level

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 1 round

Saving Throw: None

This spell causes a wall to be covered with highly reflexive crystals. Any light hitting the wall is reflected in a random direction. If an entire room is covered with such walls, even a small light is sufficient to blind most creatures who enter the room. The crystals also work as mirrors, so that a vampire or other creature who dislikes or fears mirrors will not go near the affected wall.

The material component is any crystal, or even a shard of glass from a mirror.

Gemstone Skin

Level: 4

School: Alteration, Elemental Earth

Range: 0

Duration: 3 round/level

Area of Effect: Caster's body

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 5

Saving Throw: None

This spells transforms most of the caster's skin into a sort of plate mail made of bright colored gemstones. The armor does not cover the more flexible parts of the body more than a standard suit of bronze plate mail does. For the duration of the spell, the caster has a base AC of 4. He still takes standard damage from any bludgeoning or slashing weapons, but piercing weapons do only half damage, unless carefully aimed at the joints (requiring a called shot). The only exception to this rule is picks of any kind, which instead cause double damage. Due to the reduced flexibility of his body, the caster temporarily looses 1 point of Dexterity until the spell wears off.

The material component is a gem, cut in the form of a shield.

Wall of Gemstone

Level: 5

School: Evocation, Elemental Earth

Range: 15 feet/level

Duration: 1 year

Area of Effect: 6 square feet/level

Components: V, M, S

Casting Time: 1 round to 1 hour

Saving Throw: None

This variants of the wall of stone Spell create walls made of precious gemstones. The walls have the same properties of the standard spell, but any piece of gemstone removed from the wall will decay into dust in a few minutes.

The casting time depends on the amount of details added to the wall. The caster can shape different features, provided he has the time for the rituals, and he is not bound to the shapes provided by the standard wall spells. This spell is known to many Caurenzan wizards-architects, but Bartolomeo di Malapietra has developed a secret technique which allows him to blend two or more walls of different gemstones, for better aesthetic effect. This requires a successful ability check on the artistic ability (architect) non-weapon proficiency.

The material component is a gem of the same kind as the intended wall, which is consumed in the casting.

Mineral Blast

Level: 2

School: Evocation, Elemental Earth

Range: 30 feet +10 feet/level

Duration: instantaneous

Area of Effect: 1 target

Components: V, M

Casting Time: 1

Saving Throw: Half Damage

This spell is a standard attack spell of Bartolomeo di Malapietra, a master Earth Elementalist. It opens a small gate to the Mineral quasi-elemental plane, delivering a blast of tiny mineral shards, which cause burning wounds for 2d4 hit point, plus 1 hit point per level of the caster. A successful saving throw halves this damage. A failed saving throw means full damage, with the shards often remaining in the wounds, and must be removed by hand, or with a powerful healing spell of at least 2nd level. Until all shards are removed, the wounded character looses 1 hit point per day, has –2 penalty to hit rolls, +2 penalty to Armor Class, and has his movement rate his reduced to two-thirds.

The material components of this spell are a quartz, and a pinch of mixed gemstone powder of at least three different gems.

Bladearms

Level: 2

School: Alteration, Elemental Earth

Range: 0

Duration: 1 round/level

Area of Effect: Caster's arms

Components: V, S, M

Casting Time: 2

Saving Throw: None

This spell causes the caster's arm to change into a pair of blades made of sharp mineral shards. Each arm acts as a short sword, but causes 1 more hit point of damage due to its sharp and jagged edges. The caster can hit twice per round. The caster cannot perform any other action with his arms but can end the effect at will, usually to regain use of his hands.

At 9th level, the caster is able to use his bladearms against creatures invulnerable to normal weapons. At 15th level, he can damage creatures who can only hit by +2 weapons. At 21st level, the caster can hit any creature of less than demi-power status with this weapons.

The material component are two shards of quartz, one held in each hand for the casting.
