Who Are We?

Nationally, Embroiderers' Guild of America ( EGA) has over 20,000 members in over 350 chapters in the U.S. and Canada.  Prairie Stitchers is the only chapter in South Dakota.  We are a member of the Heartland Region which serves 29 chapters in 9 states. The Prairie Stitchers Chapter is dedicated to the three main goals of EGA:

  1. To foster a high standard of design, color and workmanship in embroidery.
  2. To teach the embroidery arts.
  3. To preserve our needle arts heritage.

In other words, we like to stitch, learn about all forms of needlework and teach others!

There are currently three communities involved in Prairie Stitchers:  Mitchell (primary chapter), Aberdeen (satellite group) and Dell Rapids (satellite group).

When Do We Meet?

Each group has a main meeting each month.  The Mitchell chapter meets the first Tuesday of the month at the Mitchell Technical Institute at 7 p.m.  In addition, the Mitchell group has a meeting on the third Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Primrose Apartments.  The Aberdeen group meets the first Tuesday of the month as well at 7 p.m. at the North Highland United Methodist Church. Dell Rapids members meet the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Timeless Treasures.

Members use these meetings to share ideas and projects as well as hear a featured presenter on a topic of interest to the general membership.  Check the Calendar page to find out upcoming features and activities. The chapter is operated by member volunteers who are elected by the general membership.

What is in it for me?

A quarterly newsletter is published and distributed to all members. See the Membership page to learn more about a complimentary newsletter for newly interested individuals.

All members receive a copy of Needle Arts, a quarterly publication with topical articles, hints and how-to's, letters to the editor, chapter news, a calendar of events and updated information from the Education Department.

All members receive a copy of the annual Education Catalog published by the Education Department. All members are encouraged to take advantage of EGA's educational opportunities which are many, varied and encompass all levels of expertise. Many of these courses are now offered through the organization’s national website (http://www.egausa.org).

All members receive a brochure for the national seminar that is held each year.

Chapter dues are $25/year.
