All good things must come to an end. Yahoo has decided to completely get rid of its free web hosting service known as Geocities. The company has stated that October 26 will be the last day for Geocities accounts. After that date, the Portage Community Historical Society's website can be found at RootsWeb, part of Ancestry.com, the premier Genealogical research website. The new address is www.rootsweb.com/~inpchs. The site is up there now, just not as current as this one.

The festival is over for another year. We were glad to see so many people come out! Thanks to all the re-enactors, displayers, contributors, vendors, Park workers, and especially volunteers who made it all work. Don't forget to keep visiting the museum because the diplays keep changing and growing. See you soon!

Take a look at some pictures from member Kathy Heckman of Portage's "lost" settler cemetery. The James-Schrock Cemetery contains the remains of some of this area's oldest settlers. Unfortunately, after being "rediscovered" a few years ago, vandals destroyed almost every stone. Mrs. Heckman is working on getting the cemetery cleaned up and the stone pieces organized somehow.
