POOLE SAIL CLUB

NOTE - Poole Sail Club has been disbanded in 2008 due to differences of opinion with Scouts Canada.   Its too bad because it was a lovely spot and so many of us were involved in Scouting.  This web site will be eliminated in Fall, 2009.  I have kept it active till then for those people around the world who use it to design a personal mooring.  Please CLICK HERE to follow the link to the new web site where MOORING DESIGN is now located.

LOCATION We were located on the north shore of Wabamun Lake, Alberta.  Our anchorage is nestled in just West of Whitewood Point and about 1 KM east of Coal Point . For you land lubbers, that's  approximately 7 km west of the Village of Wabamun along the Lakeshore Road, or about 70 km west of Edmonton on Highway 16W. If you have a GPS receiver you can find us at 530 34' 06" N. & 1140 35' 47" W.  Our sailing season is from early May to the end of October, but that is usually "modified" by weather.

PERSONAL MOORING - A proper mooring is absolutely essential at Poole Sail Club as 100 KM/H winds have blasted through our anchorage, with 1-meter high waves. Sometimes a storm can last several days, though generally not this extreme. The worst ones come from the southeast and the other nasty stuff comes from the southwest. We're reasonably well protected from the rest.  In fact, it can be absolutely peaceful with a storm from the north or north west.  A great time to do some work on your boat or just enjoy the tranquility in the flat water.
