Elan Valley, Powys, Wales

One of the best kept secrets of the heart of Wales is the Elan Valley. In the 19th Century this whole valley system was bought by Birmingham, my home town, and a series of dams built to create the reservoirs that supply the city with its water. The system is one of the world's largest gravity fed systems - the water leaves the Elan valley and makes its way to Birmingham, 80 miles away through an aqueduct/tunnel, arriving at the Bartley Reservoir near where I work in south west Birmingham.
