“ A great Light penetrated the darkness causing by its heat a fragment of the chaos to break apart from the other.  A great shower of sparks issued from this fissure illuminating the void with glowing cosmic pinpoints.  Time without reckoning began to slow and an orb formed, floating through the vast starry space.  The Light warmed the fragment giving the orb purpose and shape.  Countless millennia sculpted this sphere into mountains and in their valleys streams, then rivers, then vast seas and oceans.  As the Light shone down a firmament was formed from the steam and roiling waters, beautiful clouds of infinite shapes cascaded across the waves and lands below.  And the seas were alive with crawling things brought up by the warmth, the stones of the mountains looked about aware of themselves.  Lightning arched across the sky and flame leapt from the hills raising its searing arms to the sky, and its maker.  The winds called the name of the one who created them from nothing… Ildon.

            In order to finish the task of creation Ildon gave the elements form and guise, calling them the Feyarch and making them gods over this new world.  The gods created the plants and creatures of the world which they in turn called Addis.  Each god made creatures suitable to themselves.  Half the mortal Races of Addis and half again the Gods forged of the earth, seas, air and fires in the manner of their own creation:  Sylvar, Dwarves, Nomrin, Trollotaur, Ariah and Humans in that order of making.  When the task was complete Ildon set aside a place for them which is known as Eterra, or ‘Elemental Earth’ because it is a dimension said to be parallel to the world of mortals yet of a primal nature where the elements live and things exist in their true form.  The Eterra is the place where the gods of Addis dwell.

            The task of creation complete, some of the Gods loosing their bond to Ildon, becoming restless, competing amongst themselves, and coveting power over Addis.  The inhabitants of Addis turned on each other and elemental battles took place.  Wars that rent the Feyarch in two factions: those loyal to the Light and those who turned to a mighty one of their kind known as Tanzmat, the Faceless Lord as he was the only god who refused to take earthly form, declaring it below his rank as a god of that which crawls on in the slime below.  Tanzmat brought ire in the hearts of his own creation, known as Humans, to make war on the other races of Addis.  In the Eterra and upon the face of Addis a Great War raged. Fire burned earth, water scalded fire, air vaporizing water to the winds, and earth suffocating the currents of air.  A large number of the Feyarch were destroyed, returned to the primal essence of Ildon, and were no more.  But the gods of Light and their creations below were triumphant and finally shackled Tanzmat and cast him into the shadows of the Eterra where he would dwell for eternity.  In defeat the corrupt and degenerate were outcast to the deep underground and other hostile lands – they were known as the Trollotaur, practitioners of dark magic.  Other groups of the most elemental Fey fled the known world using their latent powers of creation to build a hidden city of their own – a hovering metropolis which levitates over a dark and treacherous sea.  The location of this lost city is known only to its makers, a race known as Ariah.  Half of the Humans were taken by Tanzmat to his domain, the others remained in the world of mortals, making an existence in the wilderness now silent of the Feyarch.  ”

An Account of the Coming of the Third Age

In what is now known as the First Age, the force known as magic had become too powerful. Wars waged between powerful elven sorcerers as they fought for control of their homelands, ancient magi used their forbidden secrets to conquer nations, and fantastic monsters prowled the world, some as intelligent as the good humanoid races using their knowledge and supernatural abilities to rein over stolen kingdoms and terrorize at will. In the end the power of magic and those that wielded it threatened to destroy all of Addis and likely the known universe in a holocaust of arcane warfare. 

           The Faceless Lord, Tanzmat, had played no small part in the chaos and destruction of the millenias, but sensing his ultimate annihilation he used his power to create an element alien to the cosmos. What he created was neither living nor magic. Where the multiverse is a Macrocosm where the Feyarch created Worlds in their image by the power of their will, Tanzmat the Unknown had created the Microcosm, the minute inner workings of matter.  While such may seem trivial in the time frame of eternity his creation sent out a ripple that became a shockwave, and a Second Age of Time dawned, the Age of Technology. And as the inhabitants of Addis became aware of the smaller universe, they became able to harness its power, creating primitive inventions which lead to larger and more fantastic ones that are vastly different than even the modern age musings of the reader's own world.  A handful of Humanoids, Fey, monsters, and Dragons with this new consciousness discovered that their psyches were as well enhanced, and they were able to use the pathways of the mind to alter the world about them. Eventually crystal power sources and weapons were discovered which allowed victory over magical forces, journey into the skies and uncharted lands, and for a secret few, the vastness of space.

            The power of Magic was weakened and the cycle of the universe was forever changed. With the rise of these technologies, The Second Age drove the Elder races from the face of Addis. The Light Elves returned to the Eterra, the Underworld Elves and Dwarf Lords turned to the inner earth. The Ariah left to secret cities that hover over endless and unknown seas. The Dragons and other Living Gods vanished into the Oceans, Skies and the space between spaces where they await to one day return. When Technology had at last caused its own destruction, the Third Age dawned, and all forces started over again.

 

 

Welcome to Elemental Earth!  I am looking for dependable and friendly players who like equal shares of solid role-play, exploring (dungeon-crawling!), puzzle solving,  and combat.  Quests will depend on the character’s actions and a campaign at large will take place.  The campaign will take place in the Third Age of Addis, also known as the Age of Balance in the time of 1500 VT.  It is a time after both technology and magic where ancient forces once more emerge and heroes are once more found from amongst the common ranks of the lands.  The Awakening has come to Addis, and things are stirring once more, monster sightings are becoming more frequent and travelers tell of strange happenings in the deserted regions.  Trails of smoke and fire are seen again from the poisonous mountain-fortress of Thorgothan, and the armies of the Darklands are slowly gathering.
