Igesund happy with Classic draw

Gordon Igesund was smiling late on Monday after his team had drawn Classic in the two-leg Rothmans Cup quarter-finals.

"It was just the draw we were looking forward to," he said. "We did not want to go to Bloemfontein, Cape Town or Welkom. Those are difficult venues to come away from with first leg wins."

Last season Rangers, who seem to have struck good form in recent games, were bundled out of the lucrative cup competition by Seven Stars - now known as Ajax Cape Town. Igesund was upbeat after the draw as his team meets Classic for a second time in two weeks. Last weekend Rangers came away with a 2-0 win over the newly promoted side.

"It was a difficult game. We were lucky at one stage as they were on top but were unable to get the goals. Fortunately we scored twice to seal the points," said Igesund. "Now that we've drawn them in the Cup does not mean we'll have the better of them again. We will need to work hard on our game and have a good cushion for the second leg at our home ground."

Meanwhile Bloemfontein Celtic have drawn Sundowns at home in the first leg while Orlando Pirates will have to travel to Cape Town for their game against Hellenic. Free State Stars have been matched against Jomo Cosmos - the first leg is scheduled for Welkom.

The venues and the days of which each game is to be played will be announced by the PSL at their next media briefing.
