Ladyfag on Life, Love & Beauty
Looking like she stepped straight out of an Almodovar film and assaulting your eyes with a bushel full of armpit bristle, Ladyfag stepped onto the New York City club scene less than a year ago and has already created quite the buzz for herself.
A self proclaimed “Fancy Lady”, Ladyfag spent her past decade in Toronto where she ran a vintage clothing and antiques company, thus amassing for herself a glittering wardrobe the size of a New York City apartment. Currently living in New York, Ladyfag claims to have the best bosses a girl could ask for: Kenny Kenny, Susanne Bartsch, Larry Tee and Josh Wood. This self proclaimed fancy lady can be found performing at New York City hotspots Happy Valley and Bank. Ladyfag also spends her time in the Big Apple as a dancer, a performer, a visual artist, and most notably of all, a “female-to-female impersonator.”

G: Tell me, Ladyfag, why is it important to live with a “capital L?”
L: Why be fancy, when you can be FANCY? I don’t believe in doing things half way. OVER THE TOP is a general motto that applies to almost everything I do. You should always try and do things as large as you can dream them. I’m guilty of being a dreamer and a hopeless romantic, but not so guilty that I let my dreams pass me by. I live out my dreams everyday.

G: And when did you start LIVING?
L: I’m a born again fag. I sometimes think of it as “Clan of the Cave Boys (Bears)” I play Darryl Hannah’s part as the girl raised by a pack of fags and now runs with them thinking she is one of them. So much of what I’ve learnt about being a woman I’ve learnt from men.

G: If such a place does exist, where is the one and only place to live?
L: I love to travel and one of my favourite places is Mexico City. It’s got that alive energy of a big city but with the physical and emotional beauty of its history. I almost ended up there, but… I came to New York six months ago with no intentions of staying, now I feel I could never leave. New York is not just a place you happen to live, it’s a part of your life. So many people come here to chase their dreams and that energy makes this city electric.

G: Well agreed!
Tell me, Ladyfag, what is something that you just love?
L: Without a second thought, getting dressed up with my friends and going dancing is my favorite thing in life. To some it just seems frivolous, but my fondest memories and the new memories I’m creating are seeing my friends all sparkled up and happy, having the time of their lives on a dark dirty dancefloor.
