This Web Quest will be used to help students learn about light and careers associated with the use of light.

Questions


  1. Check out the 53 Optical Illusions and Visual Phenomena web site. Describe your ten favorite illusions. Were they what you were supposed to see?
  2. Take the Light Tour. Did you and your partner get the correct answers?
  3. Join Bob Miller's Light Walk. Describe, in writing, one of the devices he tells you how to make.
  4. Find out about Rainbows. Why do we have rainbows? Are all rainbows alike? Draw a picture of a rainbow. Be sure your colors are in the right order!
  5. Do you have The Light Stuff? Go to Joe's Room and answer the questions. Can light pass through all the objects? Play the Time Traveler Game. What did you learn?
  6. Why do some people need glasses? Find out at Kids Health. Write definitions for the following terms: nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
  7. What is it like to be blind? Find out from the National Federation of the Blind. Write a description of one way that a blind person can use something to help him/her manage in a "seeing" world.
  8. Look at some artwork at the National Gallery of Art. Do all of the artists use the same materials? Do all of the objects reflect light in the same way? Explain some of the differences you see.
  9. The laser is used in medicine and in many industries. Discover information about the laser at The Invention of the LASER at Bell Labs: 1958 - 1998. Find out about Charles Townes. Write a complete sentence describing where he was born and where he went to college.
