Staff photographer Bob Rosato's collection of gear is fairly typical. To a football game he takes four or five EOS-1D bodies and 600mm f/4, 400mm f/2.8, 300mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, and 50mm f/1.4 lenses. For basketball, he adds five or six EOS-1Ds cameras and dispenses with the 400 and 600mm lenses.

Famed wedding photojournalist Denis Reggie claims that with his 1D MKII's, he no longer shoots verticals for his pj work; he shoots everything in horizontal and crops to whatever orientation he wants afterwards (cropping to vertical or square). Saves him from having to use a flash bracket for vertical flash shots.

.... famed wedding photojournalist Denis Reggie........ he only shoots in horizontal orientation now! He claims that the MKII gives him enough resolution to crop down to square or vertical afterwards. That saves him from constantly switching orientation, and it means he no longer uses a flash bracket.

...EOS cameras are the most adaptable modern SLR cameras on the market, thanks to their very large EF mount and short flange-to-film-plane distance. That means they accept Nikon F, Leica R, Leica Visoflex, Contax/Zeiss/Yashica (RTS), Pentax 42mm Screw Mount, and Olympus OM lenses with the appropriate adapters.

Originally, I thought that the Rebel XT was a bit too small and uncomfortable for my taste, based on briefly handling it at the camera store. But I bought one on behalf of a friend who was interested in buying her first DSLR. When I was teaching her how to use it, I handled it quite a bit and did some shooting with it. I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed using it, and that the grip was not too small. The key is that you don't necessarily have to grab the grip with your whole hand. The XT grip has a very prominant "hook" built carved into the top of the grip, just below the shutter button. I found that if you "hook" your right middle finger into this hook, the rest of your fingers can hang free or rest anywhere they want to, and it makes for a very secure and comfortable way of holding and maneuvering the camera body. I loved it. I loved using the Rebel XT so much that I went out and bought one for myself.

I used to think the XT was too small too. It definitely seems that way when you are handling it briefly at the store. But I bought one on behalf of a friend who wanted an XT as her first DSLR. Before I handed it over to her, I took it out for a "test drive". To my surprise, after shooting with it for an hour, I liked it very much and no longer considered it "too small". I liked it so much that I went out and bought one for myself.
