This site contains a commentary on the Gospel of Luke (Saint Luke) and a commentary on the Acts of the Apostles, both by Dr Pett. The Acts of the Apostles is the second part of the Gospel of Luke (St Luke). Luke, who wrote both, was called by Paul ‘the beloved physician’ and Luke accompanied Paul on many of his travels. With Paul Luke spent two years in Caesarea where he met regularly with, among others, Philip the Deacon (diakonia) (Acts 6, 8). In company with Paul Luke also met with the Apostles. Luke thus had every opportunity of learning first hand from eywitnesses the facts of Jesus’ life. Luke is also well recognised as a reliable historian, and scholarly studies have confirmed how accurate Luke is when dealing with historical and geographical information. Luke’s Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles must therefore be seen as reliable sources of information about Jesus, about His teaching, and about the spread of the early church.
