NEWS!!!

June 17, 2006

(PEG-SETI)

I haven't updated this site for over a year. It has been for several reasons:

  • I didn't take the time.
  • SETI@home developed the BOINC client and made the switch.
  • This switch made several links on this website inoperable,
and as I said above, again I haven't taken the time to clean it up.
  • BOINC also changed the logic of my data collection for the Team statistics.

(SETI@Home)

Outage Notice. Because of nearby building construction there will be an extended power outage this coming weekend. All of our machines will be turned off so there will be no data or web service. The outage will begin Sunday, January 9, at 18:00 PST (January 10, 02:00 UT). We hope to be back up Monday at 08:00 PST (16:00 UT).

Where do our WU's (Work Units) come from?
They are collected at the Arecibo Radio Observatory in Puerto Rico. SETI@home utilizes a dedicated L band receiver (430MHz feed, a 97 feet long antenna). The sky survey covers a 2.5 MHz bandwidth centered at 1420 MHz (1.42 GHz). The "dish" with it's 305m (1000 ft) diameter is the largest single-dish radio telescope on Earth.

To see where the WU's are stored and handled (hardware and some other stuff) see The SETI@home Photo Collection [new]
This also puts some faces to names you might have heard or read in the newsgroups dedicated to SETI

SETI@home gearing to power up (SETI-II)

I have found 2 other teams with progress people, which — compared to our team — are pretty small:

Team name (and comment) January 9, 2003 August 22, 2003

PROGRESS-Hackers (mainly a German company using Progress)

9 Members

9'292 Results

9 Members 13'556 Results

Progress (SETI enthusiasts at Progress Software Corporation)

29 Members

11'674 Results

30 Members 15'190 Results

Progress Email Group (placed here for comparison)

 46 Members

 61'668 Results

52 Members 102'939 Results

If someone from those teams happens to read this, why don't all y'all join us?
To be in the top 200 of all teams, we would need about 230'000 results (that's about 145'000 more than the the three teams above combined), but to be in the top 200 of the teams of our class "Clubs", where the top 200 mark is at around 132'000, combined we'd need just 50'000 more.
So if anybody knows another large SETI group related to Progress, or some other people who want to join the team for the fun of it, let them know.
