Here is a basic pic of my
car. Its a 1991 Acura Legend. Gold in color. Has a 3.0
liter 200HP engine in it. Has about 120,000 miles on it, and runs great as
far as I can tell so far.
This is a pic of my baffle's I started out with to make my kick panels.
They are made from 3/4" MDF and then cardboard was added around the outside to
house a grille. In the end, I ended up using the cardboard not as a grille
holder, but as a lip to sink the speaker down into. This is also why I
spray painted them. I thought that it was going to be shown and I would
need it a different color to accent the driver. I ended up just carpeting
the whole thing, so the black spray paint isn't even seen.
This is car preparation.
When working with fiberglass, its real sticky and if you stuck it to the carpet,
its not going to come back up real easy. So I use aluminum foil. Its
easy to tear off after the glass dries and also makes a good mold of whatever
you are glassing.
This is after the bottom mold had been made and the top/outside was being
glassed onto the bottom. Since this is the first layer, you can see
where the baffle sits on the inside of the panel.
To speed up the process of drying the glass(since the PF show was the
next day) we used a regular Wal-Mart bought heat gun. It works real well
assuming you move the gun fast enough and don't burn any of your glass.
Notice how the glass is so flat and smooth that it could be painted. We
might try this in the car later on.
