I guess this is where I tell you about my angel baby. I was 5 months pregnant when I found out that Christopher had Down syndrome. It was a long 4 months after that. We were warned about all the complications children with Ds can have. Knowing was the best choice I made, I could prepare my self emotionally for Christopher arrival. Christopher a.k.a cj was born on July 20, 2002 he weighed 5lbs 13oz. Christopher was born at 34 weeks. Christopher was born with only minor complications. He had a valve open, and mild jaundice. Other than that he was very healthy. CJ's heart valve closed up when he was only a few weeks old. I thank god everyday for that. Christopher had moderate Hypotonia when he was born and still has it today.

I really don't even know where to start with CJ. He is my miracle baby. The baby I never thought I would have. Some of the difficulties we faced when CJ was born was his eating, and his development.
Christopher was and is still today a very finicky eater. He had a difficult time nursing and, he did not gain much weight at first so the Dr put him on formula. When he went to baby food he still had problems eating. This is when his therapist and I figured out that he was having difficulties with textures. We still today have difficult time getting him to eat. It is daily that I search for ways to improve his eating.

Christopher also was born with asthma. Before Christopher was 2 he was hospitalized twice for Pneumonia. We had him on a nebulizer on a regular basis for over a year. Christopher was also born with a Cohanal Atresia. Which has meant a lot of sinus problems for him. The Dr's won't consider any surgery at this time because he functions well with it. Today Christopher is Functioning at about a 20 month with most of his development. His gross motor is about a 30 month old. Christopher is now 3yrs.
One of our biggest challenges with Christopher is he is not talking. He has a vocabulary of about 5 words. He chooses to use them only when he wants to. He does know about 10 signs but only uses them when encouraged or he is mimicking someone. Communication is a problem without it Christopher is getting frustrated as well as all that is involved in his life. He has had his hearing checked, and had tubes in place. We just cannot figure out if it is medical or behavioral. We are having him evaluated by CARD because some of his teachers and therapist believe there is a bit of Autism Spectrum Disorder there ( very common with Downs Children) as well as some Sensory Integration. So much goes on in our daily lives that it would be senseless to put all on one page. So I have started a discussion board. http://pcdownies.proboards55.com Not only with it be a place to share our daily lives, but a place to ask questions and find answers.
