Cruel and stupid experiments on monkeys will be conducted by Mark Laudenslager at the University of Colorado. With our tax money from the National Institutes of Health, he intends to stress monkeys to the point where they will drink pure ethanol. He will periodically anesthetize them to take fluids from their spinal cords. The purpose is to determine whether poor mothering will increase a young monkey's tendency to abuse alcohol. How much better if this tax money were used to provide more clinics for treatment of humans with alcohol problems and support for mothers who need guidance on how to be good mothers!

According to Lawrence A. Hansen, M.D., Professor of Neurosciences & Pathology, UC San Diego: "It is obvious that the researchers have monkeys and want money, so they have contrived a study linking poor mothering to increased impulsivity, aggression and alcohol consumption, while giving it a patina of actual science." In Defense of Animals is leading the campaign to save these monkeys (called the CU34) from continued suffering.
