Father/Son campout information
Thanks to all who helped with the den leaders this month. Special thanks to Marie
and Bob Strum for running the Popcorn program. Remember to work on the
advancement, have fun!
Looking forward to another GREAT PACK MEETING!
Please forward this to any other den parent that might find the information
useful.
POPCORN SALES DUE TOMORROW!
...Please turn in all popcorn sales tomorrow to your den leader!
Popcorn Update: OUR SALES COULD POP THE TOP!
We're off and running. Over the last two weeks we received a great jumpstart
on the Fall fundraiser. Sales, I am told, at the L&L Kroger, and Block
Buster stores were brisk. Thanks to all the Boys and their parents for making
it out.
We have until Tomorrow October 27th. to wrap up sales and turn your order
forms into your Den Leader. Boys...Keep a record of who you sold to so you
will be able to hand the popcorn our correctly when the delivery comes in!
All sales will be totaled on October 28 to see which scouts qualify for
prizes. Thanks for giving it your all.
How is the money used?
This is the only way the Pack makes money. These funds pay for den
activities and advancement awards and patches, plus it defrays the cost of
the Father and Son outing in January. In addition part of the money goes back
to our council to help support and maintain the campsites and other council
activities.
GO and GET'em!

STUFFED ANIMAL COLLECTION: For child victims of crime!
This month we are starting our Stuffed Animal drive as part of
our Kids against crime November Pack meeting program. The goal is to raise
the awareness of child safety but more importantly to help scouts recognize
their role as citizens. The collection will be donated to the Oakland County
Sheriff’s department for children who are victims of crime or accidents.
The Stuffed Animals will be presented to the Sheriff’s at the November Pack
meeting on Thursday, November 21st.
NOTE: The Sheriff's department has requested only NEW stuffed
animals (any size, color, or style). The stuffed animal must contain a tag
identifying the material content of the animal.
Den Leaders, please follow up with your boys and start collecting the
animals during your den meetings and bring them to the November Pack Meeting.
Thanks to all boys and their parents for participating in this noteworthy
cause.
Together, Cub Scouts are helping children "BEAR" crime.

FINAL WEEKS: RECRUTE A FRIEND CONTEST!
A special announcement to all Den Leaders and Cub Scouts: We are
starting our final Fall push to "Recruit a Friend for Scouts". If
you have a friend or neighbor in grades 1 through 5 he is still eligible to
join scouts through the 2nd week of November.
And when you get a friend to join, you’re eligible to receive a Scout Recruiter patch. In addition, for
each scout you recruit, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $50
college savings bond. The more you recruit, the more chances you have to win.
All names must be registered with your den leader by November 13th. to be
eligible. If you have any questions, contact Tom Davidson. The Winner will be
announced at the November Pack Meeting!

SPACE-RACE LAUNCHES IMAGINATIONS.
Last Pack Meet we had our official Space Race, and I have
to say, I've never seen so many inventive designs. It always amazes me how
fast they go. Did everyone see the rocket that did three loops around the
wire before crossing the finish? Definitely had their Wheaties. Congratulations
to Adam who won the Space Derby. Adam was followed by Nick and Jonathan.
It's also a great learning opportunity in Physics and Aerospace propulsion.
Most importantly, it's about building something with mom and dad.
One of the things I learned is that you need more than one rubber band to
move the rocket.
I hope some people captures this on film. If you did, please e-mail photos to
me. I'd like to incorporate them into the Spring Video.
Hope you all had fun. Thanks to everyone for participating. I also want to
thank all the fathers for their call to arms and bringing drills and helping
set up. I have to say, that was the most participation I've seen ever for
helping execute this program.
We have special plans for making it even more exciting next year and
elevating the science aspect as well.
If you'd like to learn more about Space and what it takes to be an astronaut,

Trivia question: Who was the first man to walk on the moon?

What's it really like to be an astronaut?
Ever wonder what it would really be like if you were an
astronaut?
What do they eat--- How do they train---What would it feel like to live on
the space station? All these questions and more are answered in the official
NASA website.
Learn about the Mars expedition; track what country the space station is
flying over right now.
This is a great resource of school reports or just inspiring a future
astronaut in the family.
I encourage you to visit this site today and spend a little time sending your
child’s imagination into orbit.
If you get a chance, visit the IMAX Theater in the Henry Ford museum. This
month, they are playing a film on the construction of the space station. Tom
Cruise narrates it and I highly recommend it.
Both are great ways to sum up the theme of last months Space Race.

Pack Rules: Unattended kids in the halls…
Special thanks to all parents and Den Leaders for helping
monitor the halls at the last pack meeting. I heard no reports of unattended
children roaming the halls. This is significant given all the activity
involved with the Space Race.
It's also the First Pack Meeting I've been involved with where we had
100% compliance! Thanks again and keep up the good work. Please give the kids
a pat on the back for me!
