Hows it going these days. My brother in law put me on to this site.
Though it was good and might be interesting to other Adgies.

http://www.cpmh.net/

It details "Wannabes", people posing as vets but have no entitlement to
do so. It has some other interesting info especially on people who have
put in claims through DVA.

The story goes that this doctor had problems starting his aircraft - It had
a dead battery. So with ignition on, a little choke and brakes off he attempted to start the aircraft manually, i.e. swinging the prop.
She started OK, but since the brakes were off, the craft got away from him.
At high taxi speed it cleaned up about six light aircraft belonging to a local flying club. The attached shows the last aircraft that the 'run-a-way' attacked. Come to think of it, I haven't seen better slices in a loaf of bread.
The damage was just under 2 million dollars.

LONG TAN BURSARY FOR NORTHERN TERRITORY STUDENT
An 18-year-old student from Humpty Doo, whose father is a Vietnam veteran,
has received a Federal Government bursary to assist her in her university
studies.
Veterans' Affairs Minister Danna Vale presented the Long Tan Bursary to
Lou-anne Berryman at a visit to the Darwin RSL today.
"Lou-anne is a very worthy young recipient of the Long Tan Bursary and I
congratulate her on her many achievements," Minister Vale said.
Lou-anne Berryman is currently studying for a combined Bachelor of Law and
Bachelor of Business at the Northern Territory University. Lou-anne's
father, Anthony Berryman, served in Vietnam on HMAS Sydney from 29 October
1966 to 25 March 1968.
"The findings of the Vietnam Veterans' Health Study highlighted the
importance of educational assistance in providing mental health support to
the sons and daughters of Vietnam veterans," the Minister said.
"The Long Tan Bursary was designed to help Vietnam veterans' children make
the move to university, TAFE or other tertiary studies and enhance their
opportunities to pursue the career of their choice.
"In April the Federal Government announced it will more than double the
number of Long Tan Bursaries available to help the children of Vietnam
veterans undertake tertiary studies.
"The Government will award 30 bursaries in 2003, each worth $6000, to
provide practical assistance and help the sons and daughters of Vietnam
veterans to obtain the qualifications and skills they will need to pursue
their chosen career in a competitive market.
"The scheme has now been operating successfully for two years and this
expansion will ensure that Vietnam veterans' children have access to the
educational support they need to follow their dreams," the Minister said.
The Long Tan Bursary is open to Australian Vietnam veterans' children up to
the age of 25 who are planning to enrol in their first year of full-time
tertiary education. The $6000 in financial assistance is available in
addition to other education support for veterans' children, including the
Veterans' Children Education Scheme, Austudy, Abstudy and the Youth
Allowance.

THE SINKING OF HMAS ARMIDALE REMEMBERED

The 40 Australian sailors and 60 Dutch and Indonesian troops who died during
and in the days after the sinking of HMAS Armidale should be remembered for
their service and sacrifice in the defence of Australia, the Minister for
Veterans' Affairs, Danna Vale, said today in Darwin.

Minister Vale laid a wreath to those who died, during a sunset service on
The Esplanade organised as part of the Naval Association of Australia's 27th
Triennial Federal Conference.

HMAS Armidale was sunk after being attacked by Japanese planes near Timor on

1 December 1942.

"The sinking of the Armidale became famous for the story of the magnificent
bravery and loyalty of one sailor, Ordinary Seaman Edward (Teddy) Sheean,"
the Minister said.

As HMAS Armidale began to go down, Japanese planes began machine-gunning the
survivors in the water. Seeing this, Teddy Sheean strapped himself to the
ship's aft gun and shot down one and damaged two of the attacking aircraft
as he went down with the ship.

"Those who survived the sinking of the Armidale probably owe their lives to
this brave young man who was recognised by the Navy with the naming of a
Collins Class submarine, HMAS Sheean, in his honour," Minister Vale said.

HMAS Sheean is the only Australian warship named after a junior sailor.

"This year marks the 60th anniversary of 1942, the year when the war came to
Australia's doorstep," the Minister said.

"When the Pacific War broke out in December 1941, the unthinkable had
happened and Australia was under direct threat of attack.

"The men, women and ships of the Royal Australian Navy were to play a key
role in the defence of Australia with the Navy forming Australia's first
line of defence.

"The war was to cost the Navy dearly, with more than 2000 members losing
their lives in the service of our great country.

"We must ensure that the sacrifice of our naval personnel is not forgotten
and that their legacy endures in the hearts and minds of Australians for
generations to come."
