Hello All!
Could some one please tell me if in fact the side air bags became
available on 1995 turbos, and then all 850's from '96 on.
I am looking into buying an 850 with side air bags, and have
looked at some photos of a '95 turbo, but could not tell if, or where the
air bags are located,
any info on this would be helpfull. Thanks!

yes it did man i have a 94 missed it by one year
I just talked to a dealer about this. He told me that the side
air bags were an option in '95, then standard in '96. Maybe he meant that
they were only
standard on turbos in 95?
I think the side bags are located in the seat bolster in those cars, and there is labeling on the door or frame that indicates their presence.
Don't take my word for it, I have actually been wrong before.

I have a 95 855 turbo. The SIPS (Side Impact Protection System)
was fitted on all 850 turbo's, and as an option on the non-turbo models.
In 96 it was
standard on all 850's. You can see an indication of the device
just rear of the automatic seat controls. It is labled "SIPS". Hope this
helps.

Look at the airbag sticker in the driver's door opening with the replacement/check dates. It also lists the seat airbags if they are installed.
Bye, Arno.

Just to clarify, if your car has "SIPS" embossed in the door sill
it doesn't necessarily mean you have side airbags. "SIPS" was introduced
in either '93 or
'94 and consisted of side impact door beams and other structural
improvements that would improve side impact crash protection. Side airbags
were not
added until '95.
