Rear Brake Replacement[850][1996] Shawn -- Sunday, 1 April 2001, at 5:54 p.m.
Hello,
Recently I tried to replace the rear disk pads on my Volvo. When I
removed the bolts to loosen the Caliper, brake fluid started to leak from
the bottom of the caliper. I have replaced brakes several times but never
on the Volvo. Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what I am doing
wrong? Thank you
SD Riahi
You don't have to remove bolts to replace the brake pads. NEVER remove
the bolts that hold the two halves of the caliper together, unless you
have an overhaul kit on hand that includes the o-rings for the caliper
halves. To replace brake pads, tap out the two pins that hold the pads.
Tap from outside toward center of car. Remove pins and anti rattle springs.
Compress the pistons back and slip out the pads. After cleaning things
up, install the new pads/shims with synthetic silicone grease where the
pads touch the caliper/piston, and tap the pins back in.
