A2 Codes 443 & 232: Fuel pump, Fuel
pressure and bad fuel pressure regulators

I'M DESPERATE! 443 & 232 on A2. Please Help. [850][1995]

Car has 149K on the clock. No O2 sensors replaced yet. Vacuum lines and
elbows look good. Here's the scoop:

Codes 443(?) and 232 on A2. I have no clue what the 443 is. Anyone know?

The 232 has been coming up ever since I had the fuel pump replaced. After
clearing the A2 codes the car idles low and rough. It recovers some of the
time but not always. Check engine light stays off for a while and then comes
back on. The low and rough idle then disappear (is this the ECU
               compensating?).

Mileage seems to be suffering now as well. Please help! Any info will be
               appreciated.

443 - Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) efficiency low.

232 - on LH 2.4, Motronic 4.3, Long term fuel trim, idling, at upper or lower
               limit (too Rich)

On LH 3.2, Motronic 1.8, Long term tfuel trim, idling, at upper limit.

               Hope this helps.

Neither code isolates a bad part, not as easy to diagnose as a code which
indicates something seemingly obvious like a bad O2 sensor (for example).
I'd look for a vacuum leak to start with, then have someone check your fuel
pressure. Also make sure there's no air hose leaks (and intercooler hoses if
               Turbo).

               John,

I just had a fuel pump replaced and now the check engine light comes on. It
makes sense that this could be a fuel pressure problem. Do you know if the fuel
pump is adjustable in regard to its pumping volume or pressure? If so, I will
take it back to the dealer that installed the pump and have them look into it.
               Thanks for the help.

               No,it's not adjustable.
Another remote but possible cause of your problem might be a bad fuel
pressure regulator. Sometimes the internal diapham splits and gas enters the
vacuum hose to the intake manifold. That could cause your problems too.

Another A2-232 thread;

Diagnostic code 2-3-2[850][1995]  Steve -- Friday, 27 July 2001, at 10:00 a.m.

Can anyone help me in figuring out why my "check engine" light is on? I am getting a diagnostic code of 2-3-2 from socket A-2. I checked with volvospeed.com and it states that most likely it is a vacuum leak but I wondered if anyone else has had this code and what the problem was.

I believe 2-3-2 in the A2 socket is a fuel trim lean or rich exhaust under partial throttle.

I say check fuel pressure, fuel filter (may need to be replaced), wastegate (have you adjusted it), air filter (maybe too clogged), air intake (may have a clog or collapsed section), MAF sensor, leak in the intake or intercooler ducting, diluted engine oil.

Yes it could also be a vaccuum leak, so track that down as well. At the most it should take one or two hours to check everything.
