Anime Rankings

* You will avoid this at all cost. Earth will continue to revolve around the sun, and rotate on its axis, and you will not have missed a damn thing.
* * Likewise terrible, but this may be bad in a good way, that is, it may provoke some laughter from you if you are a fan of the subgenre.
* * * This show is certainly watchable, but there will be glaring flaws throughout. In other words, I made it through this but it failed to leave any lasting positive impact.
* * * * A great show, and if you're thinking of making the big DVD purchase, this should probably be the minimum level of quality you'd want from an anime.
* * * * * Essential. The very best the medium has to offer. Great characters, great emotion, innovative production values, absorbing plot and setting, etc. It has damn near all of this, if not all.

My Anime

2x2 - Shinobuden TV 1-12 [Fansub/2004] * * * * Hilarity ensues in this ninja anime, the characters and situations are out of control, a worthy successor to Excel Saga? Perhaps.
3x3 Eyes OVA 1-4 [Fansub/1992] * * Pretty much garbage, but what the fuck else did we have to watch back then?
3x3 Eyes Shin OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1996]
6 Angels WEB 1-6 [Fansub/2001]

Abenobashi Magical Shopping District TV 1-13 [Fansub/2002] * * * Quirky and cute satire series, but it ends up recycling itself through different genre parodies a bit predictably, still you could do a lot worse.

Ah! My Goddess TV 1-24 + Special [Fansub/2005]
Ah! My Goddess: Sorezore no Tsubasa TV 1-24 [Fansub/2006]
Ai no Kusabi OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1992] * Cyberpunk setting, a futuristic city, boys only, you know where this is headed...it's a sort of tough guy, master-slave, cyberpunk homosexual drama with a bit of action and not a lot of blatant erotica. Not for me.
Air TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005] * * * At times boring, but Air is often this fascinating, slice of life with supernatural implications, intriguing enough that I watched the entire series.
Air Summer Special [Fansub/2005]
Air Gear TV 1-24 [Fansub/2006] incomplete
Air Master TV 1-27 [Fansub/2003] * * * * A pretty sweet high school street fighting anime that stands out for having original and 'ugly' characters (hint = they are not that ugly), and the most 'real', alluring juggly ecchi breasts ever.
Aishiteruze Baby TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004]
Akahori Gedou Hour Rabuge TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005]

Amaenaideyo! Katsu TV 1-13 [Fansub/2006]
Amazing Nurse Nanako OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1994]
Amazing Nuts OVA [Fansub/2006] * * * * A brief collection of four music videos animated by Studio 4C, the shorts are breathtaking, very original, and fuck, if "Twinkle" became an anime series I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Well worth the 15 minutes.

Angelique OVA1 [Fansub/2000]
Angels Feather OAV 1-2 [Fansub/2006] * Terrible yaoi shounen nonsense, featuring not only chest-bearing prettyboys, but chest-bearing prettyboys with angel wings. Teh ghey yo. Teh ghey.
Animation Runner Kuromi-chan OVA [Fansub/2001] * * * * Hilarious and cute story about a girl that starts working for an anime studio, very heartwarming, unfortunately this is all we got.
Animatrix OVA [DVD/2003] * * * * * Excellent compliment to the portfolios of these noted anime studio/directors, and some enriching material for the Matrix universe. Top notch.
Anokoku Shinden Takegami OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1990]
Appleseed FILM [DVD/2005] * * * * * Amazing upgrade to the shitty old Appleseed OVA, this film does great justice to Masamune Shirow's original manga. Killer.
Appleseed Ex Machina FILM [Fansub/2007] * * * Anotehr beautiful looking CGI flick, though the story felt a bit hackneyed.
Ar Tonelico OVA 1 [Fansub/2006] incomplete
Arashi no Yoru ni FILM [Fansub/2005] * * * * It's a beautiful film about the most unlikely of friends. The animation is superb, the story is often sad, often funny, always touching. I wish Gabu and Mei had a slightly less...Frodom and Sam relationship (nod nod wink wink), but this is a minor complaint. Listen for Riki Takeuchi as Giro. See this film.

Atama Yama FILM [Fansub/2002]
Avenger TV 1-13 [Fansub/2003] * * * While this is not a bad sci-fi anime by any means, and does have an interesting story to tell, I can see how some might be put off by the slowly staged revelation of the actual plot.
Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror TV 1-11 [Fansub/2006]
Ayane's High Kick OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1996]
Ayashi no Ceres TV 1-24 [Fansub/2000]

Bartender TV 1-11 [Fansub/2006]
Basilisk Koga Ninpo Cho TV 1-24 [Fansub/2005] * * * A tragic blend of Ninja Scroll and Shakespearan tragedy, fascinating to watch the great ninja battles with cool powers, end stretch gets weak.
Bastard! OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1992] * * Incredibly stupid, one of the worst fantasy anime ever, but it definitely has some funny touches, particularly how all the names are heavy metal references...
Battle Angel Alita OVA 1-2 [VHS/1993] * * * This is okay, kind of like the manga is okay, nice post-apocalyptic stuff though heavily derived from Rollerball, Road Warrior, The Terminator, etc.
Battle Athletes OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1997]
Battle Athletes Victory TV 1-26 [Fansub/1998]
Battle Programmer Shirase TV 1-15 [Fansub/2003] * * Hmmm...one of the few anime I think I've ever seen about a hacker. I made it through, of course, but it left a lot to be desired.
Beck! TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004] * * * * Excellent series about kids that form an unlikely rock band that soars to unexpected heights. Very down to earth and enjoyable.
Beet the Vandel Buster TV 1-52 [Fansub/2004]
Beet the Vandel Buster: Excellion TV 1-25 [Fansub/2005]
Berserk TV 1-25 [DVD/1997] * * * This is a decent enough fantasy anime, but it is missing huge chunks of plot, and has a retarded scene where Gatsu kills 100 'warriors' at once.
Betterman TV 1-26 [Fansub/1999]
Beyond the Clouds - The Place of Promise FILM [Fansub/2003] * * * A visual tour de force from the creator of Voices of a Distant Star, has a similar pace to that short film. Unfortunately the hogwash sci-fi plot and the lack of much interesting action left me pretty bored.
Big O TV 1-26 [Fansub/1999-03] * * * * Say what you will. Yes, it is confusing, but if you take the time to let it sink in, and absorb you, it is utterly compelling.
Binbou Shimai Monogatari TV 1-10 [Fansub/2006]
Binchou-tan TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006]
Black Blood Brothers TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006]

Black Lagoon TV 1-12[Fansub/2006]
Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage TV 13-24 [Fansub/2006]
Black Magic M-66 OVA [DVD/1987] * * * Another Shirow manga adaptation with fairly poor animation, still, it has its moments for a show about a female Terminator.
Blame! OVA 1-6+Extras [Fansub/2003] * Artistically intriguing nonsense, just read the manga, the anime does not do it justice.
Bleach TV 1-120 [Fansub/2004] incomplete * * A horrible, overrated heap of nonsense, some of the powers and characters are cool but there are more holes in this than a thousand golf courses.
Blood the Last Vampire OVA [Fansub/2000] * * * Plot holes aplenty, but great animation and had this been turned into an actual TV series it would have had a lot of promise.
Blood + TV 1-49 [Fansub/2005] incomplete
Blue Gender TV 1-26 [Fansub/1999] * * * * A creepy, at times horrifying war anime, the creatures are fascinating and you get a real sense of sadness and loss at the entire situation. Great.

Blue Seed Beyond OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1996]
Blue Sonnet OVA 1-5 [Fansub/1989]
Blue Submarine No. 6 OVA 1-4 [DVD/1998] * * * * Excellent post-apocalyptic anime about a world in chaos where most remaining power lies in ability to control the seas, also has some EXCELLENT interplay between the humans and mutants.

Boogiepop Phantom TV 1-12 [Fansub/2000]
Bounty Dog OAV 1-2 [Fansub/1994] * * * * I'm one of the few people in existence that enjoy Bounty Dog. It's dark, mysterious, fast-paced science-fiction which leaves a lot unexplained, but for what it was worth, I was fascinated the two episodes of the OAV.
Brain Power'd TV 1-26 [Fansub/1998] * * * A highly character-driven, high-concept mech anime ala EVA. But despite the strong score, characterizations, and fascinating concept, it barely escapes mediocrity.
Brave King GaoGaiGar TV 1-49 [Fansub/1998]
Brave Story FILM [Fansub/2006] * * A fairly weak Alice in Wonderland type story, kid gets whisked away to an incohesive fantasy land complete with talking anthropomorphic animals, guiding deux ex machine voice of mysterious girl, etc. A waste.
Brigadoon Marin to Melan TV 1-26 [Fansub/2000]
Burn Up OVA [VHS/1991] * * Sexy 80s tits and ass girl cop nonsense, provokes a few laughs because of the genre it was trying to break open.

Busou Renkin TV 1-26 [Fansub/2006]
Byosouku 5cm Story OVA 1 [Fansub/2007] incomplete

Call Me Tonight OVA [Fansub/1986] * * * A schoolgirl masquerading as a callgirl meets a guy with a problem, he turns into a tentacle rape monster (a pretty friendly one) when he gets turned on. Would you believe this is 30 minutes of solid entertainment?

Chikyuu Ga Ugoku Hi FILM [Fansub/1997]
Chobits TV 1-27 [Fansub/2002] * * Seriously lame robot maid anime, don't waste your time, this is overrated by a bunch of freaks who don't know better because they've seen maybe 3 anime in their lives.

Compiler OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1994]
Compiler 2 OVA [Fansub/1995]
Cool Devices OVA 1-11 [DVD/1995] * * * Sexy hentai with some titillating subject material, it is a collection of short stories, most of which are quite kinky.
Cosmo Police Justy OAV [Fansub/1985]
Cosmo Warrior Zero TV 1-13 [Fansub/2001]
Cosprayers TV 1-8 [Fansub/2004] * * Pretty unwatchable, pretty retarded, not even bad in a GOOD way.
Cowboy Bebop TV 1-26 [DVD/1998] * * * * * A hybridization of jazz, funk, and sci-fi culture with a hell of a lot of cool, one of the few anime essential for EVERYONE to watch. And what a finale...
Cowboy Bebop - Knockin on Heavens Door FILM [DVD/2001] * * * * Set between two of the TV episodes, works well as a Cowboy Bebop episode, just in movie length. As a feature film? Not perfect.

Daicon III & IV [Fansub/1981-3] * * * These video shorts were used for a convention, contain tons of nods to popular anime, and are the reason Gainax studio formed. For these reasons they are worth seeing.
Dangaizer 3 OVA 1-4 [Fansub/1999]
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue TV 1-24 [Fansub/2004]
Dark Cat OVA [Fansub/1991]
Darker Than Black TV 1-14 [Fansub/2007] incomplete
Darkside Blues FILM [Fansub/1994] * Complete garbage, typical of the 'demon world opening into our world' style animes that oversaturated the late 80s and 90s.
Darkstalkers' Revenge OVA 1-4 [Fansub/1997]
De:Vadasy OVA 1-3 [Fansub/2000] * * * It's a hokey little Evangelion knockoff, but at the same time it is erotic, creepy and compelling, worth watching once despite its lackluster, confusing plot.
Dead Leaves OVA [Fansub/2004] * * * * Complete insanity, this is one hilarious, frantic paced prison break, and well worth the rush.
DearS TV 1-12 [Fansub/2003]
Death Note TV 1-37 [Fansub/2006]
Demon City Shinjuku FILM [Fansub/1988] * * This is crap, but I actually enjoyed it at one point and it holds some cheese value within my cold, still heart.

Dirty Pair TV 1-26 [Fansub/1985]
Disgaea TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006]
D.N. Angel TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] * * The production values of this show are far greater than the story it is trying to tell, which becomes boring quickly.
DNA^2 TV 1-12 [Fansub/1994] * What COULD have been an interesting look at reproduction in the future, virility of a certain genetic lineage, etc is reduced to namby-pamby nonsense lame comedy. This show really fucking sucks.
DNA^2 OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1995] * Bullshit = the sequel. Noone need waste their time on this atrocity.
Dogtato-Kun TV 0-16 [Fansub/2004] * * Bizarre little show like Kogepan, but nowhere near as good.
Doki Doki School Hours TV 1-20 [Fansub/2004]
Dokkoida TV 1-12 [Fansub/2003]
Dominion Tank Police OVA 1-4 [VHS/1989] * * * * It may have some cheese, and may cater somewhat to the unfortunate Furries among us, but it is definitely a classic Shirow manga adaptation.
Don't Leave Me Alone, Daisy TV 1-12 [Fansub/1997]
dotHack//Sign TV 1-28 [Fansub/2002] * * * * Despite the slow pace of this show, it totally sucked me in. A beautiful concept involving a MMORPG gone awry, with a hell of a lot of philosophy in there.
dotHack//Liminality OVA 1-4 [Fansub/2002] * * * These four episodes came as companion discs to the PS2 games and the stories run parallel to .Hack//Sign, but in the outside world.
dotHack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet TV 1-12 [Fansub/2003] * * There are a few laughs here or there, but this is quite dumb and really shits all over the .Hack// legacy which was decent up to now. Features the game characters.
dotHack//Gift OVA [Fansub/2003] * * * * * Hilarious super-deformed parody, really non-stop laughs if you are familiar with the characters from the show and games.

Earthian OAV 1-4 [Fansub/1989]
Eien no Aseria: The Spirit of Eternity Sword TV 1-2 [Fansub/2005] incomplete
Eiken OVA [Fansub/2003] * * Insane ecchi with lots of squishy big boobs and panty action, it was charming and funny enough for its brief duration but I probably won't watch it again.
Eikoku Koi Monogatari Emma TV 1-12 [Fansub/2005]
El-Hazard: The Magnificent World OVA 1-7 [Fansub/1995] * * * The original OVA was very nice, one of the better early examples of that whole 'school kids wind up in fantasy world', chosen-one syndrome school of anime.
El-Hazard: The Wanderers TV 1-25 [Fansub/1997]
El-Hazard: The Alternative World OVA 1-13 [Fansub/1998]
Elf Ban Kakyuusei OVA 1-4 [Fansub/1998]
Elf Princess Rane OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1995] * * * * What the hell is going on here? I don't know but I thought these two episodes were hilarious.
Elfen Lied TV 1-13 [Fansub/2004] * * * It's pretty fucked up, what makes it distinctive of course is the constant zigagging from moe to brutality. Probably a little overrated, but worth watching at lease once. Please do not watch the English dub, the female voice acting is horrid.
Elfen Lied Extra TV [Fansub/2004]
End of the World OVA [Fansub/2002]

Ergo Proxy TV 1-23 [Fansub/2006]

Eureka Seven TV 1-45 [Fansub/2005] incomplete
Eureka Seven Navigation Ray=Out [Fansub/2006]
Excel Saga TV 1-26 [DVD/1999] * * * * Perhaps the most insane anime ever created, with more parody than you can count and some unforgettable lead characters. Certainly worth owning.

Fantastic Children TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004]
Fate-stay Night TV 1-24 [Fansub/2006] * * * The concept was intriguing at first, but limited number of characters and redundant chosen one bullshit dragged this down to simply passable. Do not listen to what others tell you in their fandom raving, watch for yourself.
Final Approach TV 1-13 [Fansub/2004] * * * Eh, it had a nice point to it, and a nice resolution, but was only slightly above pointless mediocrity. It's about the nature of relationships.
Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals OVA 1-4 [Fansub/1994]
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children FILM [Fansub/2005] * * * * * It's finally here and it kicks ass, looks beautiful, wraps up the FFVII game's story nicely, and has mindblowing ridiculous action all over the place.
Final Fantasy VII: Last Order OVA [Fansub/2005] * * Basically an episode of Cloud's backstory, to tie in with the recent FFVII revival buzz, Advent Children, etc.
Final Yamato FILM [Fansub/1983] * * * Dated and often laughably so, but the tragic tale of Yamato and the fate of Earth in the 22nd century and the hilarious Comet Empire still packs a few punches.
FLAG TV 1-13 [Fansub/2007]
Flame of Recca TV 1-42 [DVD/1997] * * * A quality ripoff of Yu Yu Hakusho. The strength once again lies in the great fighting tournament characters and their various cool fighting styles. Let us not forget 'Buddah will forgive you only three times, my son'. The best part.
FLCL OVA 1-6 [Fansub/2000] * * * This is another of those frantic, insane anime like Excel Saga or Dead Leaves, with a pretty short run. Many people enjoyed this more than I, but it's alright.
Fruits Basket TV 1-26 [Fansub/2001]
Full Metal Panic TV 1-24 [Fansub/2002]

Futakoi Alternative TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005]
Future Boy Conan TV 1-26 [DVD/1978] * * * A decent old Hayao Miyazaki TV series, pretty nice post-apocalyptic show with a villain similar to the one from Castle of Cagliostro.

G-On Riders TV 1-14 [Fansub/2002]
Gad Guard TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] * * * Good animation, liked the character designs, mechs were like Mega Man robots in style, the story kind of sucked, imagine Big O Jr. but instead of a cool mental maze it's just sort of a reset button type plot.

Gall Force 1: Eternal Story FILM [Fansub/1986] * * * * * The original Gall Force film is excellent. There is a lot of action and intrigue, and it was quite amazing for its time. Some might consider the conclusion prepostorous, but it's as good an explanation as any :)
Gall Force 2: Destruction OVA [Fansub/1987] * * * * There isn't nearly as much as in the Eternal Story film, but what we get here is a cool sequel that ties up some loose ends and helps explain a few more...things that we might take for granted.
Gall Force 3: Stardust War OVA [Fansub/1988] * * * * * The sad and epic third chapter in the Gall Force continuum, continues right where we left off in Destruction, has the best animation yet in the series and a lot of useful exposition. And to think it's not over yet. Excellent OVA.
Gall Force 4: Rhea Gall Force OVA [Fansub/1989]
Gall Force: Earth Chapter OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1989]
Gall Force: New Ear OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1991]
Gankutsuoh TV 1-24 [Fansub/2004]
Gantz TV 1-26 [Fanub/2004] * * * * This anime is just mental. I'd compare it to a Takashi Miike film, it's not afraid of some gore and fucking. Great plot and some surprise twists. Kept my attention throughout, despite some minor flaws. Battle Royale fans should check it.
GaoGaiGar TV 1-49 [Fansub/1997]

Gatekeepers TV 1-24 [Fansub/2000]
Gatekeepers 21 OVA 1-6 [Fansub/2002]
Gekiganger 3 OVA [Fansub/1996] * * * It's a 'fake' anime, that retro crazy giant robot stuff you saw when you watched Nadesico :)
Geneshaft TV 1-13 [Fansub/2001] * * * The premise is fascinating, the Giants' technology, the genetically stratified society, the 9:1 woman to man ratio...but the show really fails to make any of this interesting, so it never turned out as good as I had hoped.
Genshiken TV 1-12 [Fansub/2004] * * * * * The greatest anime ever in my opinion. It's about otaku, and fandom in general...it touched my heart because I actually lived this.
Genshiken OAV 1-3 [Fansub/2006]
Ghiblies OVA 1-2 [Fansub/2000] * * * Decent enough anime shorts from...you guessed it....studio Ghibli.
Ghost Hunt TV 1-25 [Fansub/2006]
Ghost in the Shell FILM [DVD/1995] * * * * * A masterpiece of cyberpunk, one of the greatest anime films ever, and the absolute pinnacle of all the Shirow manga adaptations.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 1st GIG TV 1-26 [Fansub/2002] * * * * * This first season was absolutely phenomenal, each episode was interesting, the antagonist was amazing, and it's just a perfect overall package, antoher great tribute to Shirow's work.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 1st GIG Tachikoma Special TV 1-26 [Fansub/2002] * * * * Cute enough little Tachikoma skits that they would play with the 1st gig Standalone Complex episodes.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004] * * * * It has some great moments, but it is not quite as good as the 1st GIG due to the storyline which is quite frankly, nonsense. Everything else is top of the line though, this is GITS after all.
Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence FILM [Fansub/2004] * * * * Very profound, moreso even than the first film. I was more blown away by Appleseed, but do yourself a favor, chill out and watch this.
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society [Fansub/2006] * * * * If you are a fan of 1st and 2nd gigs, then you will enjoy this film which follows loyally along that style of pseudo-political psychological cop drama.

Giant Robo OVA 1-7 [DVD/1992] * * * * The ultimate retro anime, a tribute to 50s-70s shows, with a BOATLOAD of cameo characters from the director's past work. One flaw = too much crammed in here. Otherwise, fucking amazing, the word epic comes to mind.

God Mars: 17 Year Old Legend OVA [Fansub/1988]
Gokujou Seitokai TV 1-26 [Fansub/2005]
Gokusen TV 1-13 [Fansub/2004]
Good Morning Althea OVA [Fansub/1987] * * It's not all that bad for a sci-fi OVA in the 80s, you got mechs, magic, dark isolated future storyline, in fact, the main drawback is there is just too much for this 50 minute story. Nothing is fleshed out enough.
Good Witch of the West TV 1-13 [Fansub/2006]
Goshogun: Time Etranger FILM [Fansub/1985] * I'm sure this could make sense if you tried hard enough, but that's the problem, it's so bad that there is no reason to even bother. Shitty 80s anime.
Grandeek OVA [Fansub/2000]
Grappler Baki TV 1-24 [Fansub/2001]
Grave of the Fireflies FILM [Fansub/1988] * * * * * The most stunning and profound anime film ever made, based on World War II from a perspective we have rarely if ever seen. You WILL cry, trust me. If not, you are soulless! The least Miyazaki-like film by Miyazaki.

Green Green OVA [Fansub/2002] * Not worth the cels it was printed on, just watch the series which was great.

Gundam 0079 FILMS 1-3 [DVD/1979] * * * * I enjoyed the movies a great deal, the original series condensed and improved in almost all departments. This is where it began, folks.

Gundam F91 FILM [Fansub/1991]
Gundam Victory Gundam TV 1-51 [Fansub/1993]

Gundam 08th MS Team OVA 1-12 [DVD/1996] * * * Another of the tighter, shorter Gundam series, and again, it's nothing impressive but it is worth checking out once, or twice for Gundamaniacs.
Gundam Wing TV 1-49 [Fansub/1995] * * * * The kids can get annoying, but this is a seriously awesome alternative universe Gundam saga, quite deep and mature in places.

GunGrave TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] * * * * Ignore the first episode, and then pay respects to a FANTASTIC organized crime drama epic with a few sci-fi/supernatural elements.
GunGrave O.D. OVA [Fansub/2004] * Was this a real OVA or just clips from the game...either way, terrible and totally unecessary, GunGrave ended up great, leave it the fuck alone.
GunParade March TV 1-12 [Fansub/2003] * * * This was a good show, with a lot of great scenes, but it focused too much on disaffected teen romance than its intriguing sci-fi backdrop. No explanation for the alien menace, it simply exists...?!?! Frustrating.
GunParade Orchestra TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005] incomplete
Gunslinger Girl TV 1-13 [Fansub/2003] * * * This one is worth seeing because the concept is disturbing. It's essentially The Professional crossbred with Ghost in the Shell.

Haruka Naru Toki no Naka de: Hachiyoushou TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004] * * It's a sort of urban fantasy about some 'hawt' bishounen guys, a destined princess sucked away from our own reality, and dragons and elements and crap you've seen 200 times.
Hataraki Man TV 1-11 [Fansub/2006]
Haunted Junction TV 1-12 [Fansub/1997] * * Had the potential to be so damn good, but fell flat with pointless stories and no real resolution for all the cool characters.

Honey & Clover: Special Chapter F OVA [Fansub/2006]
Honey & Clover II TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006]
Hoshizora Kiseki WEB [Fansub/2006] * * Some web drama one-shot thing, a girl and a boy predict where a star is going to fall and live happily ever after. Pretty but extremely boring.
Hotori: Tada Saiwai o Koinegau SPECIAL [Fansub/2005]
Howl's Moving Castle FILM [Fansub/2005] * * Quite overrated, once of Miyazaki's worst films, of course all his fanboys believe the guy can do no wrong. Too similar to previous films.
Human Crossing Point TV 1-13 [Fansub/2003]
Hundred Stories TV 1-13 [Fansub/2003] * * * The art style is both beautiful and ugly, thick lines and an early comic deco. The OP song was great. Use of Japanese folklore? Great. But the story winds up quite disappointing after all those 'folklore creature of the week' episodes.
Hunter X Hunter TV 1-62 [Fansub/1999] * * * * The first 40 or so episodes, the Hunter Exam sequence, rocks hardcore, but then I didn't like the Celestial Tower sequence as much and it starts the Karupica vs. Ryodan arc.
Hunter X Hunter OVA 1-8 [Fansub/2002] * * * Still some touching moments, this OVA is devoted entirely to the Karupica vs. Ryodan arc. The whole thing just feels 'uneven'.
Hunter X Hunter Greed Island OVA 1-8 [Fansub/2003] * * * Turning such a potentially amazing series into the bastard stepchild of .Hack//Sign and Yu-Gi-Oh! was a pretty bad idea, but still has some nifty ideas.
Hunter X Hunter Greed Island Final OVA 1-14 [Fansub/2004] * * As you can tell, I have become increasingly wary of how this poor series turned out :( It was so awesome to begin with...

Iczelion OVA 1-2 [VHS/1994] * * Absolutely retarded girl power shoujo nonsense, but that is why it gets an extra point, it's so stupid it's funny and tries to be nothing else.
Iczer-One OVA 1-3 [VHS/1985-87] * * Predates Iczelion one, but you got the same basic thing going on. Girls in super armor fending against particularly vile demons. Oh boy.

Initial D Second Stage TV 1-13 [DVD/1999] * * * * A fitting continuation of the show, does no disrespect.
Initial D Third Stage FILM [Fansub/2001] * * * Was okay, I may have been getting tired of Initial D at this point so I wasn't as down as I was for the TV show.

Ippatu Kikimusume TV 1-16 [Fansub/1999] * * * A series of ridiculous anime shorts in which a busty girl and her busty American roommate get into absurd situations and try desperately to get out. Entertaining and somewhat ecchi.
Iria: Zeiram the Animation OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1994] * * * * Excellent sci-fi combat, fast paced and gripping story, then the last few episodes fizzle out a bit, but otherwise this is a keeper, great music too.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu OVA 1-6 [Fansub/2005] * * Try to imagine the TV show Roswell if it were an anime, though this tried to be funny and dramatic, it ended up boring me and I could barely stay awake through a single episode.
Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV 1-26 [DVD/1993] * * * * Hilarious space opera about a total incompetent that turns out not to be so incompetent after all...I think there are some lessons to be learned in this show, it's a great one.
Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA 1-10 [DVD/1997] * * * * These OVA episodes further expand the series and compliment it well, every bit as charming and I'm glad the Rite Stuff put them out.

Jikuu Tenshou Nazca TV 1-12 [Fansub/1998] * * It's another of those 'all the characters are reincarnated legendary figures' anime, which means the story is basically butt. The Incan fantasy theme and character costume designs are quite nice though, as is the music.
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade FILM [Fansub/2000] * * * I did enjoy the animation and music for the film, it had this very unique look to it with ugly, realistic character designs...as far as the retelling of Little Red Riding Hood spin? Failed on many levels. The movie is alright.

Kiki's Delivery Service FILM [Fansub/1989] * * * Pretty decent, light-hearted Miyazaki film with a terrible underwhelming ending, par for the course for Miyazaki.

Kimagure Orange Road OVA 1-8 [DVD/1987]
Kimagure Orange Road FILM [DVD/1987]
Kimagure Robot TV 1-10 [Fansub/2004] * Basically ten short skits, the animation was cool but most of the punchlines are ripped off other sources.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien TV 1-14 [Fansub/2003] * * * Highly venerated romance anime, it is definitely good enough that I watched through it but doesn't really leave a mark on me for the long-term.
King of Bandit Jing: In Seventh Heaven OVA 1-3 [Fansub/2004]
King of Fighters: Another Day WEB 1-4 [Fansub/2005] * * The animation and music in these shorts are great, but as usual, the disjointed fighting game story is complete bullshit, and this is even worse than the fighting game story...
Kino's Travels TV 1-13 [Fansub/2003] * * * * Nice little show, though there is a filler episode or 2. Basically an analysis of dystopian cultures through a sole traveler's perspective (and her motorcycle).
Kino's Travels: Life Goes On [Fansub/2005] * * * Basically another episode of the series, that goes into a little of Kino's back story.
Kirameki Project OVA 1-5 [Fansub/2005]

Kiss Dum TV 1-7 [Fansub/2007] incomplete

K.O. Beast OVA 1-7 [Fansub/1992] * * * * While it may not have been as impressive as Gunbuster (or the later EVA), K.O. Beast was an entertaining Gainax OAV series with a fun story, great animation and high production standards for 1992. Cult classic.
Kogepan TV 1-10 [Fansub/2001] * * * * * It's ten short episodes about a burnt piece of fucking bread...and the life that said burnt piece of bread leads...a work of PURE GENIUS.
Koi Kaze TV 1-12 [Fansub/2004]
Koi Koi Seven TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005]
Kokoro Library TV 1-13 [Fansub/2001] * * * It's a timid anime, for little girls, so why did I watch it? No idea, but it's not particularly offensive or terrible. Just very calm. Very peaceful.

Kono Minikuku mo Utsukushii Sekai TV 1-12 [Fansub/2004]
Kouryu Densetsu Villgust OAV 1-2 [Fansub/1993] * * * Another of those fantasy anime spoofs which takes a bunch of JRPG stereotypes and turns them on end. I liked the characters and the creature designs, it's only two episodes and worth watching if you like Dragon Half or Slayers. I have this game too, I'll have to check it out.

Kurau Phantom Memory TV 1-24 [Fansub/2004]
Kurogane Communication TV 1-24 [Fansub/1998] * * * * This was quite a nice anime about one of the last girls alive on Earth and her robot caretakers, each of which has a unique personality.
Kyou Kara Maou TV 1-78 [Fansub/2004] * * This just wasn't for me, it's shounen ai, about a chosen one who gets flushed down a toilet to become king of a fantasy realm. Packed with lots of squeamish cultural nuances and gender benders, but a fairly weak show.

Legend of Basara TV 1-13 [Fansub/1998] * * * Pretty down to earth, a girl avenges her twin brother by taking on his role as a savior for the people of a post-apocalyptic, desert Japan. Problem is, this isn't reall y complete, and it likes to skip ahead sometimes.
Legend of Condor Hero TV 1-51 [Fansub/2001]

Like the Clouds, Like the Wind FILM [Fansub/1990]
Lily C.A.T. OVA [Fansub/1987] * * * * This was pretty good for its day. Mutating alien space bacteria, genocidal robot cat, and frankly, it was a lot smarter than it probably set out to be. Some interesting dialogue and creepy sequences make for a great Alien variant and an hour of solid entertainment.

Love Hina TV 1-25 [Fansub/2000] * * * * One of those harem shows, perhaps the most famous example, the characters are endearing, the plots are funny and I enjoyed it a great deal.
Love Hina Again OVA 1-3 [Fansub/2002] * * * Continuation of the TV series, pretty good but lacks some of the great plot that those episodes had.
Love Hina Spring Special [Fansub/2001] * * * Rinse and repeat, another continuation, we probably should have just gotten a longer TV show instead I think.
Love Hina Christmas Special [Fansub/2001] * * * The broken record soundeth again.

Maburaho TV 1-24 [Fansub/2003]
Macross Plus OVA 1-4 [DVD/1994] * * * * * A masterpiece, visually stunning, aurally amazing, and features the greatest anime dog fight in history along with some excellent character interaction. Way ahead of its time. Fuck, it's way ahead of anime by TODAY's standards.
Macross Zero OVA 1-5 [Fansub/2003] * * * * Amazing animation, Roy Fokker is in it...a pretty bizarre but unique plot, some cool characters...you could do a lot worse, but it's no Macross Plus.

Magic School Lunar: Secret of the Blue Dragon FILM [Fansub/1997] * * * * * It's adorable. It's perfect. It's a hilarious fantasy anime short. And it's ten fucking minutes long, and that's all you really need. If you like Elf Princess Rane, what are you waiting for?
Magikano TV 1-13 [Fansub/2006]
Mahoraba: Heartful Days TV 1-26 [Fansub/2005] * * * A cute and often funny show about a kid who moves to Tokyo and falls in love with his landlady. Did I mention the landlady has a severe case of MPD?

Mars of Destruction OVA [Fansub/2005]
Martian Successor Nadesico TV 1-26 [DVD/1996] * * * * A charming space opera epic, not particularly intelligent or anything but too damned fun to pass up.
Martian Successor Nadesico The Prince of Darkness FILM [DVD/1998] * * * I didn't really care all that much for the film, I wouldn't say it is 'worthy' of the TV series, but it isn't bad.

Maze OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1996]
Maze TV 1-25 [Fansub/1997] * * A sci-fi version of Ranma, essentially. Some nice characters and designs but the action is pretty sucky, conflicts resolved too easily by uber-powerful lead characters, and not much tension or reason to watch the show. Great OP song.
Mazinger Z TV 1-92 [Fansub/1972]
Mazinkaiser OVA2 Death! The Great General of Darkness [CD/Fansub/2001]
Meine Liebe TV 1-13 [Fansub/2004] * * * If you're a sort of reverse-loli girl or enjoy classy homosexual fare sans the direct yaoi, this Germanic, pompous tale of political hopefuls does not totally suck.
Meine Liebe Weider TV 1-13 [Fansub/2006]
Melody of Oblivion TV 1-24 [Fansub/2004] * * * Thought it sucked at first but it definitely got better, creepy post-apocalyptic sci-fi show with an interesting angle.
Melty Lancer OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1999] * * * * * I haven't played the game but this was an amazing sci-fi OAV series, the characters kick ass, the plot twists and turns, the animation is fantastic and you simply do not get bored here. Ever. Fucking awesome.

Metal Fighters Miku TV 1-13 [Fansub/1994]
Metropolis FILM [DVD/2001] * * * * A great tribute to Fritz Lang's original silent film, but only in subtle context. Otherwise it's a wonderful story not unlike Ghost in the Shell in the broader spectrum.
Mezame no Hakobune VIDEO [Fansub/2005]
Mezzo DSA TV 1-13 [Fansub/2004] * * It does have some interesting stories but in general the show is quite incohesive, the character designs suck, and I was rather disappointed by this 'go-to for any problem squad' ala Get Backers and like 100 others.
Miami Guns TV 1-13 [Fansub/2000]
Midori FILM [Fansub/1992]
Midori no Hibi 1-13 TV [Fansub/2004]

Mind Game FILM [Fansub/2004]
Minky Momo: The Bridge Over Dreams OVA [Fansub/1993]
Mirage of Blaze TV 1-13 [Fansub/2002] * The yaoi element didn't turn me away from this, the absolutely worthless plot did. Who the fuck cares! Honestly.
Moekan the Animation OVA 1-3 [Fansub/2003] * * The OAV looks great, there are a few touching moments, but this combat maid academy show ultimately fails to be very compelling.
Moeyo-Ken TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005]
Moldiver OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1993] * * * I can't say there is much here except some nostalgic value, a completely absurd 'babes in battle armor' style show with some funny scenes and villains.
Momoiro Sisters TV 1-24 [Fansub/1998]
Monster TV 1-74 [Fansub/2004]
Monster Extra 1 [Fansub/2004]
Mouryu Senki Madara OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1991] * * So frustrating, the world Madara inhabits is cool and has some great characters and monster designs, I love the 'gimmicks' and sci-fi elements, but the show winds up your typical fantasy 'chosen one' crap.
Mouse TV 1-12 [Fansub/2003]

Muteki Kanban Musume TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006]
My Neighbor Totoro FILM [Fansub/1988] * * * * Another charming Hayao Miyazaki film, except that once again it suffers from a weak conclusion. Kids will eat this up. Adults might too.

Nagasarete Airantou TV 1-26 [Fansub/2007]
Najica Blitz Tactics 1-12 [Fansub/2001]
Nakoruru OVA 1 [Fansub/2002] * * The Samurai Showdown games are a blast, the anime, however sucked. Nakoruru is a babe and gets her own, and while it's not good by any stretch, it is well animated and not as awful as most videogame to anime adaptations, just don't expect any fighting.

Natsuki Crisis OAV 1-2 [Fansub/1994]
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind [Fansub/1984] * * * * * Hayao Miyazaki's finest work alongside Grave of the Fireflies, over 20 years old and still holds up, with production standards that appear even greater than most present day anime films!
Negima! TV 1-13 [Fansub/2006] incomplete
Negima! Natsu OAV [Fansub/2006]
Nekojiru Gekijou Jirujiru TV 1-27 [Fansub/1999] * A series of shorts about delinquent cats who go to school with dogs and a pig that they all hate. It's supposed to be funny, but it's not funny at all, and in fact it's quite stupid.
Neo Heroic Fantasia Arion FILM [Fansub/1986] * * * A feature length anime film which is a re-telling of Greek mythology which involves a war between the gods, and the end of their time on Earth. Fantastic character designs, so it is worth watching at least once.
Neon Genesis Evangelion TV 1-26 [DVD/1995] * * * * * First time I saw a few episodes, hated them. Second time, I watched the DVDs the ENTIRE way through, got on my knees, and worshipped it. And by the way I LOVE the abstract, original ending.
Neon Genesis Evangelion End of Evangelion FILM [DVD/1997] * * * * Here's the plan guys. People didn't like the TV ending, so let's replace it with one that's got more battles and eye candy, but is equally confusing...how about it?
Neon Genesis Evangelion: EVA Rebuild 01 FILM [Fansub/2008]
Neoranga TV 1-48 [DVD/1998] * * * Loved the kind of Polynesian mecha setting thing going on with this show, as far as the story, it could have been better. Beautiful anime girls in this.
New Dominion Tank Police OVA 1-6 [VHS/1993] * * * It pains me not to like this more than I do, but it will always have a place in my heart as I am a big fan of Masamune Shirow, and the manga and characters involved, like Leona and Alphonse, Britain, etc.
NieA_7 TV 1-13 [Fansub/2000]
Night Head Genesis TV 1-24 [Fansub/2006]
Night on the Galactic Railroad FILM [Fansub/1985] * * * I did not like the Christian subtext to this film, otherwise it was pretty trippy and unique and had some nice characters. Better to watch Cat Soup, a more modern anime that is also trippy and involves cats.
NightWalker TV 1-12 [Fansub/2000]
Ninja Gaiden OVA [Fansub/1991] * The question I have for you is: why bother wasting your time with this crap when you could be playing the NES games or the XBOX game? This isn't even bad in a good way.
Ninja Scroll FILM [DVD/1993] * * * * A landmark film that broke a lot of fucking people into anime fandom. Exciting, and I can cite at least two dozens shows completely derived from this ninja action film.
Ninja Scroll TV 1-13 [Fansub/2003] * * * The cool and unique ninja enemies are in abundance, so they make it worth watching, but the actual plot of this show is inanely stupid and doesn't do much justice to the film.

Noir TV 1-26 [Fansub/2001] * * * Great music, great art, pretty good story...but some of the scenes are laughably retarded, 75 lb chicks with no muscles breaking holds of 300 lb musclemen? Lame.
Now and Then, Here and There TV 1-13 [Fansub/1999] * * * * Wow, this one ruined my day...it's a 'whisked away to far off future land' type thing, but that is the one weakness. The rest is a disturbing psychological study of the profound effects of war on humankind.

One Piece Movie 4: Dead End Adventure [Fansub/2003] * * * Eh, a lot of rousing fun here, in the spirit of the TV show, a pirate ship race full of insanity, just not that memorable afterwards.
One Piece Movie 5: Norowareta Seiken [Fansub/2004] * * * Another decent One Piece film, involving a cursed sword and a quest to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. Gets very out of control at the end, very Dragonball Z. Otherwise it was okay.

Oruchuban Ebichu TV 1-24 [Fansub/2000]
Otaku No Video OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1992] * * * * Hahahah, this may not be as cool as Genshiken but it's on par with Animation Runner, it's a Gainax parody about the anime industry and the otaku who squander their lives on it. Kind of like me...

Ouran High School Host Club TV 1-26 [Fansub/2006] incomplete
Outlanders OVA [Fansub/1986] * * * Warning = furry sex scene. Otherwise, this is pretty damn funny, prototype perhaps for a little of Tylor and Excel Saga.
Outlaw Star TV 1-26 [DVD/1998] * * * * The 'poor man's Cowboy Bebop' really sums this up, the show is great fun with great music and characters though a little rushed and convoluted at the end.
Overman King Gainer TV 1-26 [Fansub/2002]
Ozanari Dungeon OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1991]

Pale Cocoon OVA [Fansub/2005] * * * * Gorgeous, haunting, yet somewhat cryptic anime about an isolated society beneath the moon after the sun disappears.

Patlabor Mobile Police TV 1-47 [Fansub/1989]
Patlabor Mobile Police: The New Files OVA 1-16 [Fansub/1990]
Patlabor 1 FILM [DVD/1989] * * * * * Nothing like the zany TV show except for sharing some characters, this is a fucking brilliant, moody mystery film. Mamoru Oshii RULES!
Patlabor 2 FILM [DVD/1993] * * * * * Another brilliant mystery in the Patlabor universe, perhaps slightly less perfect than the first film but you won't really notice.
Patlabor 3 FILM [DVD/2002] * * * * This isn't on the same level as the first two films story-wise, but maintains the overall quality and theme, and worth watching a few times.
Peach Girl TV 1-2 [Fansub/2005] incomplete
Perfect Blue FILM [VHS/1997] * * * Very overrated, like most Satoshi Kon films, but his work does stand out for actually being so contemporary and believable. This one has a very Alfred Hitchcock vibe.
Phantom the Animation OVA 1-3 [Fansub/2004]
Photon: The Idiot Adventures OVA 1-6 [Fansub/1997] * * * Very stupid show with some ecchi elements, however, the main antagonist is so fucking funny that I recommend everyone watch it at least once (even in English he's funny).
Piano TV 1-10 [Fansub/2002]
Pita Ten TV 1-26 [Fansub/2002]
Planetes TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] * * * * Pretty down to earth for a space show, about this team of astronauts who clear debris from orbit, and some rather bizarre situations ensue.
Plastic Little OVA [Fansub/1994] * * * Nice lesbian bath scene, otherwise this is a passable, fairly exciting sci-fi OVA.
Platinumhugen Ordian TV 1-24 [Fansub/2000] * One of those post-EVA, high-concept mech shows. Unfortunately this has literally no redeeming qualities and is actually painful to sit through. Too bad as I rather enjoyed the title.

Prince of Tennis TV 1-178 [Fansub/2001] * * * * An excellent sports anime, even the superchild loses sometimes, the only thing that annoyed me was the overabundance of super deformed filler episodes.

Princess Minerva OVA [VHS/1995] * * Terrible fantasy OVA, but in a good way, thus the extra point I have awarded it.
Princess Princess TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006]
Project A-Ko OVA 2-6 [DVD/1986] * * * The first OVA/film is a parody of other anime, and quite excellent, but the rest didn't really do as much. One of the first films I really got obsessed with, and B-ko was my first hardcore anime girl obsession.

Revolutionary Girl Utena TV 1-39 [Fansub/1997] * * * Intriguing magical girl show, a lot of androgenous and metrosexual issues in this so most people will write it off as 'gay'. Not the case.
Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Adolescence of Utena FILM [Fansub/1999]
Ringing Bell FILM [Fansub/1978]
Rizelmine TV 1-24 [Fansub/2001]
Robot Carnival FILM [Fansub/1987] * * * Some nice skits by various anime directors, all revolving around robots. Some of the short films are superior to others, so it does feel lopsided at times.
Robotech - The Macross Saga TV 1-36 [DVD/1982] * * * * * Amazing...THE epic space opera anime, with the most memorable mecha ever created. And despite the fact that hardcore elite hate the English version, it was done very well by Harmony Gold.
Robotech Masters TV 37-59 [DVD/1984] * * * * * They basically molded these three shows together into a more continuous whole, I like this second sequence (originally Seicross) just as much as the first although it was shorter. This is the most underrated series in anime, ever.
Robotech The New Generation TV 60-85 [DVD/1983] * * * * * And I loved this too. Originally Mospeada, this one people remember for the cyclone transforming motorcycles, has an amazing ensemble of characters, great action, great vibe. Many anime are derived from this format (Trigun and several others spring to mind).
Robotech II The Sentinels TV 1-3 [VHS/198?] * * Was really only starting when it got cancelled, not much to say. It involves Rick Hunter and what he was doing during the Masters & New Generation series.
Rocket Girls TV 1-12 [Fansub/2007]
Romeo x Juliet TV 1-24 [Fansub/2007]
Roots Search OVA [Fansub/1986] * Dated, creepy, has some cool synth BGM and creature designs, but on the flip side it is terrible sci-fi/horror that makes absolutely no sense.
Rose of Versailles TV 1-40 [Fansub/1979]
Roujin Z FILM [Fansub/1991] * * * Not bad at all, but nothing great. This was another 'technology out of control' situation when a super robotic bed tries too hard to take care of an elderly man.

Saint Beast Kouin Jojishi Tenshitan TV 1-13 [Fansub/2007]
Saint Luminous Girls High School TV 1-13 [Fansub/1998] * * * * I cannot pin this one down, it's a strange supernatural mystery at a school primarily for girls, and it absolutely absorbed me, I fell in love with every girl on the show...really strange, a lot of people hated it.

Samurai Champloo TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004] * * * So much potential, this was Watanabe's baby after Cowboy Bebop. A hiphop samurai show that was ruined with a few very stupid decisions by the writer/director. Has a few great episodes, though.
Samurai Deeper Kyo TV 1-26 [Fansub/2002]
Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School 1-13 [Fansub/2001] * Retarded and worthless, pay it no attention. There is a good reason why you'll find this in every used anime DVD bin in America.
Samurai: Hunt for the Sword OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1999]
Samurai 7 TV 1-26 [Fansub/2004] * * * Loyal to its source material, looks great, sounds great, and if you can ignore the laws of physics and 50' mechs being destroyed by single sword slashes...you will probably have a good time with this.

Sci-Fi Harry TV 1-20 [Fansub/2000]
Scrapped Princess TV 1-24 [Fansub/2002] * * Compelling enough fantasy/sci-fi hybrid world, but had too many lame dramatic developments and the inevitable, annoying 'chosen one syndrome'. In the end, was not what it was cracked up to be.
Scryed TV 1-26 [Fansub/2001] * * * Perhaps I could call this a more tasteful, watchable version of a show like Dragonball Z. Shounen madness but done partially right.
Seirei no Moribito TV 1-26 [Fansub/2007]
Seishouho Kantai Virgin Fleet OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1991] * Awful, and every time I see the DVD on my shelf I want to hurt it.

Serial Experiment Lain TV 1-13 [Fansub/1998] * * * Abe makes some bizarre shit. This is a very compelling series but could have been a thousand times greater had it ACTUALLY HAD A PLOT that was not just being pulled out of their asses as they went along. Visually stunning though.
Seto no Hanayome TV 1-26 [Fansub/2007]
Sexy Commando Gaiden TV 1-48 [Fansub/1998] * * * * This is a hilarious, totally underrated anime about one of the most endearing and unforgettable male characters ever. A twisted tale that could only be produced through the medium of Japanese comedy.

Shin Angyo Onsi FILM [Fansub/2004] * * * Beautiful animation and great fight scenes, this is a sort of dark fantasy based on Korean myths, would have made an excellent series as opposed to this one film.
Shin Megami Tensei OVA [Fansub/2005]
Shinigami no Ballad TV 1-6 [Fansub/2006] * * Six tear-jerking tales about a little girl death god who dispenses morality to those whose lives she's 'touched'. Basically this is a cuter Touched by an Angel.
Shingetsutan Tsukihime TV 1-12 [Fansub/2003]
Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars TV 1-26 [Fansub/2001]
Shining Tears X Wind TV 1-13 [Fansub/2007]
Shinkon Gattai Godannar TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] * * * * A phenomenal hybrid of retro-mech and ecchi, with great visuals and music, and a story that alternates between heavy and hilarious. Great show.

Sister Princess Repure TV 1-13 [Fansub/2002]

Sky Girls OAV [Fansub/2006] * * * On a post apocalpytic Earth, only underdeveloped moe girls can contol the mechanical armor needed to drive back the Worms. Considering the premise, this could have been a lot worse...it actually takes itself pretty seriously...
Slayers TV 1-26 [DVD/1995] * * * * Very funny mockery of D&D and other fantasy anime in general, this is a classic that will appeal to a lot of people I wish they had given it more exposure here in the states.
Slayers Next TV 27-52 [DVD/1996] * * * Nice continuity here, and I was paying attention the entire time, but the story just kept getting more outrageous.
Slayers Try TV 53-72 [DVD/1996] * * * And then, again, it CONTINUED to get even MORE outrageous, bigger, crazier, but still worth watching.

Soul Link TV 1-12 [Fansub/2006] * Suicide is preferable to this show. In fact, I almost feel bad, because giving it * is an insult to all those other * anime.
Soultaker TV 1-13 [Fansub/2001] * * * The visuals of this show are among the best I have ever seen, but what initially seemed might be a cool supernatural/mech plot was completely twisted, convoluted, and went absolutely nowhere later down the stretch.
Sousei no Aquarion TV 1-26 [Fansub/2005]

Space Battleship Yamato S1 TV 1-26 [Fansub/1974]
Space Pirate Mito S1 TV 1-13 [Fansub/1999] * * * We all know the story, boy gets reunited with his interstellar pirate mom and her crew of aliens, robots and anthropomorphic animals. Stupid but very endearing, I enjoyed the wild pace and character designs.

Space Runaway Ideon: A Contact FILM [Fansub/1982]
Space Runaway Ideon II: Be Invoked FILM [Fansub/1982]
Speed Grapher TV 1-24 [Fansub/2005] * * * * A pretty unique take on the 'mutant power' or superhero type show, a lot of style and kept me entertained throughout, though not perfect at times.
Speed Racer TV 1-52 [Fansub/1967]
Spiral TV 1-25 [Fansub/2002]
My 2nd favorite Hayao Miyazaki film so far, so unique and endearing throughout, only lost a fifth point because of Miyazaki's typical lackluster, underwhelming conclusion.
Spirit of Wonder: Shounen Kakagu Club OVA 1-4 [Fansub/2001]
Spirit Warrior OVA 1-5 [Fansub/1988]
Spriggan FILM [DVD/1998] * * * * Pure excitement, there is little intelligence here, just a kickass good time with one of the more interesting antagonist's I've seen in an anime flick.
Spring and Chaos FILM [Fansub/1996] * * Interesting idea here, a biopic of a famous Japanese poet, with a combination of several of his works animated into a cat story...unfortunately it is boring.
Star Ocean EX TV 1-26 [Fansub/2001]
Starship Operators TV 1-12 [Fansub/2005] incomplete
Steamboy FILM [Fansub/2004] * * * Not as good as I had hoped, though the film has great production values and looks simply stunning. The steampunk genre can yield better results than this, I hope.
Steel Angel Kurumi Zero OVA 1-3 [Fansub/2001]
Stellvia of the Universe TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] * * * * * Great 'save the world' sci-fi epic in the vein of Gunbuster, this one had me on the edge of my seat through almost the entire run. Great stuff, great plot twists, highly recommended to all.

Tenamonya Voyagers OVA 1-4 [Fansub/1999] * * * * A funny and titillating sci-fi OVA with beautiful girls and animation, I wish this had become a series.
Tenbatsu Angel Rabbie OVA [Fansub/2004]
Tenchi Muyo OVA 1-13 [Fansub/1995] * * * * One of the harem prototypes, though this was blended in with a heavy Star Wars influence, some nice comedy and some of the best anime girls ever. One thing I love about Tenchi is the damn show can always make me smile.
Tenchi Muyo the Movie: Tenchi in Love FILM [Fansub/1996] * * * * It was an exciting Tenchi film, the best of the three and really good quality production, though it did involve some time travel and other stuff I normally hate. Good villain in a very 'Iria' style.
Tenchi Muyo II: Daughter of Darkness [Fansub/1997] * * * Still a film worth watching once because of the interesting antagonist chick and a pretty cool battle near the end.
Tenchi Muyo in Love II: Tenchi Forever [Fansub/1998] * * * Watch it once, but it's the worst film of the three. Another antagonist girl after Tenchi's hog, yet this is a subtler film, about stolen memories and lack of identity.

Tenchi Muyo: Mihoshi Special OVA [Fansub/1995]
Tenchi Muyo: Magical Girl Pretty Sammy OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1995]

Tenjou Tenge TV 1-24 [Fansub/2004] * * * Street fighting high school anime, had some cool aspects to it but wasted too much time on flashback episodes and a climax that was far from satisfying.

They Were 11 FILM [Fansub/1992] * * * * A good quality sci-fi mystery film, nothing really violent so this might be suitable for the kids. Was probably an influence on Infinite Ryvius.
Tide-Line Blue TV 1-13 [Fansub/2005]
To-Y OVA [Fansub/1987] * An extremely gay, unwatchable mess, it's about these rock stars in this feud, but the singers don't even really sing most of the time...?!? The downside of the 80s.
Tobira O Akete OVA [Fansub/1995] * * * A cute 11-minute short, obviously inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Character designs are inventive, and the visuals are pretty unique.

Trigun TV 1-26 [DVD/1998] * * * * I wouldn't consider this among the top dogs of anime, but it's a fucking excellent show and deserves the attention it got here in the States. It's a Wild West post-apocalyptic nod to Ninja Scroll, and does have some plot holes.
Trinity Blood TV 1-24 [Fansub/2005]
Tristia of the Deep Blue See OVA 1-2 [Fansub/2004] * * I had some hope for this, it looked great, had cute characters, and fucking homemade mecha action...but it turned out to be pretty lame.

Twilight of the Dark Master OVA [Fansub/1997] * * This is one of those shows that could really have been something if they made a high quality full-length TV series out of it. As it stands, just too short to deliver anything beyond the requisite 'demonic takeover thwarted by bishounen psychic hero' plot.
Twilight Q OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1987]
Twin Signal OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1995]

Ultra Maniac OVA [Fansub/2002] * Really just the first true episode for the series, which is a really lame show about a magic using girl who goes to a normal high school. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, without Clarissa :(~
Ultra Maniac TV 1-26 [Fansub/2003] *The show wouldn't be particularly bad if there weren't already so many others like this and better, it's just not even remotely ambitious. Mahou Sensei Negima, the recent male wizard version of this show, is far better.
Uninhabited Planet Survive TV 1-52 [Fansub/2003] * * * * Robinson Crusoe with school kids from the future. A very good series, something kept compelling me on to the next episode, though I didn't enjoy the end as much as I would have liked. Check it out.

Urusei Yatsura 3 Remember My Love FILM [VHS/1985] * * * * This one was also pretty interesting and excellent, but I think I was still bowled over by the 2nd film.

Virgin Fleet OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1998] * * Pretty weak alternate history tale about virgins who protect their nation using 'virgin energy'. Not the worst I've seen, but...why? WHY?
Virus Buster Serge TV 1-12 [Fansub/1997]
Virtua Fighter TV S1 1-24 [Fansub/1995] * * For awhile they were actually making a go at this, but it devolves into a bunch of lame stereotypes and ruins the VF characters.
Vision of Escaflowne TV 1-26 [VHS/1996] * * * * The show that said 'fantasy and mecha can work together, use your imaginations!', this was an epic production, though there are a few vagaries amidst the plot devices, 'whisk away girl to magic land', 'fate machine', etc.
Voices of a Distant Star OVA [Fansub/2002] * * * * A remarkable achievement, the product of a single man's hard work, though it's only a half hour long it is quite wonderful to behold. Sci-fi.
Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer OVA 1-3 [Fansub/1996] * * A terrible high school fighting anime, completely ridiculous and animated horribly, but has enough cheese factor and laughs to at least entertain.

Wings of Honnemaise FILM [DVD/1987] * * * * * Stunning film here from Gainax. They basically re-write our own world to a comparable setting in which nations vie for the first ever launch into space. This is top quality, and a pretty long film too. Just about flawless.
Wings of Rean OAV 1-6 [Fansub/2005]
Witch Hunter Robin TV 1-26 [Fansub/2002] * * * * I primarily love this show for its amazingly chill, cool vibe despite the dark overtones of the story. Moves slowly, but it is fascinating.
Witchblade TV 1-24 [Fansub/2006]
Wizardry OVA [Fansub/1991]
Wolfs Rain TV 1-30 [Fansub/2003] * * * How could they possibly screw this one up? Excellent fucking idea, excellent music, excellent characters, and the payoff is a crappy, convoluted conclusion. The four recap episodes didn't help matters.
World of Narue TV 1-12 [DVD/2003] * * * It's a cute enough 'fish out of water' show about an alien girl going to a human high school, the characters are cute and it's over before you know it.

X Densha de Ikou OVA [Fansub/1987] * * * * Deriving its title from a Duke Ellington jazz tune, psychic salaryman becomes inexorably linked to a phantom train riding its electric rails. Wonderful animation and a bizarre story, fits right alongside Akira or Roujin Z.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou OVA 1-2 [Fansub/1998] * * * * *Oh my...I may be one of the few people in the world who thinks this highly of a 2-episode saga about a lonely android girl who runs an abandoned inn in a future, war-ravaged setting. This is beautiful, and brilliant.
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou Quiet Country Cafe OVA 1-2 [Fansub/2002] * * * * * Again, this show uses solitude and a deep humanity in its inhuman lead character to convey the wonders and beauty that grow from a scarred land. This show is like a tranquil phoenix taking flight. Zen, man, zen.

Yu Yu Hakusho TV 1-112 [DVD/1992] * * * Somehow I made it all the way through, once it becomes an epic fighting tournament like from a videogame it really starts to rock along. A fun time.

Zombie Loan TV 1-11 [Fansub/2007] * * A few touching moments and a decent premise are not enough to save this short series from obscurity. The animation is also too still in this show. Could have used more movement.
Zone of the Enders Idolo OVA [Fansub/2001] * * * Not a bad OVA though I really should go back and finish the first PS2 game, this is decent enough for 'out of control technology' mech action.
