Boss of the Pool - a school project 8/8

Q&A

1 In what ways did Shelly change during the course of the book ?
Shelly changed from being a selfish girl that cares about no one to a kinder nicer girl that cares more about other people.  In the book it says on page one how she would hate to go to the hostel, on page 42 it  says "No one would be there: her mother said that about parents coming on Sundays to take those kids out" (it's still an improvement) & in chapter seven it shows that Shelly has turned into a caring girl like her mother.
2 How did Ben benefit from his relationship with Shelly?
Ben benefited from his relationship with Shelly because he learned how to swim, on page 67 it sais "Then he ran around to the deep end of the pool and jumped in and did his clumsy, patient, beautiful dog paddle, up and down the pool five times.  he wasn't afraid of water anymore & he learned more about other people.
3 Anne managed to get a full time job at the hostel (chapter 7) Why do you think she was selected for the job?
Anne managed to get a full time job at the hostel because she understood retarded people & she new what to do and how to handle them.  On page 62 Anne says "I was playing cards with her last night, but one of those bossy nursing aides came & told her she had to go to bed.  I tried to stick up for her, but I haven't got much to say, seeing I'm just working there as a part-time casual.  It's as though that the place is run for the convenience of the staff instead of the residents.  But it's going to be a different story if I manage to get that Recreation Officer's job!"
4 Do you think there is a morale to this story? What do you think it is? Give a reason for you answer.
I think the morale of this story is that you need to treat retarded people as good as you treat others, I think it is like this because the whole story is about how people treat retarded people, what people think about them & how people change when they are used to retarded people.
