I think that this is not true because if there is water on Mars it needs to have clouds to give it rain (unless the water seeps through the ground) & there aren't any clouds on Mars.
This is what I think should be the chapter 8. I know that Robin Klein wouldn't write this type of stuff but I think it would make an improvement to the book.
A few days later Ben got a note from NASA saying that he was invited to be the first person to swim in the water that was discovered on Mars (for proof that there is water on mars press HERE). He decided that he must show Shelly the invitation, so she can go with him. He went over to Shelly's house (with a nurse) to show Shelly the invitation. She was amazed. She said "of course I would be honoured even just to step in the water that is on Mars with you". They packed their stuff and went. In about ten days they would be on the space shuttle on the way to Mars (how exciting).

Ten days later they got their suitcases and went onboard the most magnificent shuttle they've ever seen. There were chandeliers and everything (kind of like the Titanic, but it won't break down, hopefully). Five days went past in that splendiferous shuttle (they swam in pools, they played games, they danced and they just "hanged out") and on the sixth day they could start to see Mars!!!
They grabbed their spacesuits and went
onto the surface of Mars. There was a huge lake there, so they started to go swimming.
They could see all different types of fish that looked like they mutated, for
example there was a tadpole the size of a whale, and a whale the size of a
tadpole. They grabbed some specimens and they were off back to Earth.
This time
it only took 3½ days because the engines used a better oil (that they got from
Mars ,somewhat like aviation fuel). When they got back they told everyone about their adventures and they
became very popular.
