The book Boss Of The Pool shows Shelly's experiences with a retarded boy named Ben. First Shelly doesn't like her mother's work (she works at a Hostel), but then she befriends Ben and teaches him to swim.
I really disliked this book because it is so soppy & I really dislike this type of book.

On page 9 it shows how much of a bad person she really is, for example she says "Big deal! Megan Webb is going away to the Gold Coast. We never get to go anywhere posh like that! I don't know why you can't get a proper job." |
| Anne | A loving mother who tries as hard as she can to support the
family (Shelly doesn't appreciate her). She is a caring mother who
understands people very well and can treat them well.
On page 1 she tries to help Shelly by making her not go to Mrs Murray's house by letting her go to the Hostel by saying "You'd really like it, They have a table tennis and a craft room and a lovely indoor pool." |
| Ben | Ben is a retarded boy, from the hostel. Ben is afraid of
water. His parents never visit him when they can (so he must be very
lonely). Shelly thinks that he is a total weirdo, it's not his fault
that he is weird, he was born like that.
On page 26 Anne says "He's petrified of water, poor darling" |
I think that this book isn't good because I don't like the plot, the setting or the characters. I don't recommend it to people like me who don't like soppy books.
