Being an economics and political science graduate of
the University of Queensland I have included this page
so that you can further read up on the various issues which
interest members of PAULINE HANSON'S ONE NATION. You can email or
write to me with suggested additions to this list. It is changed
incrementally in an attempt to keep it up to date.
Books :
- Katherine Betts "THE GREAT DIVIDE"
(Duffy and Snellgrove:Sydney:1999:isbn 1 875989 47 1 ) .Any
student of politics will soon soon learn that immigration
and multiculturalism are the hottest topics now. Betts
provides a detailed exposition of why this is so. It
provides a wealth of information and an an excellent
bibliography.
- Robert Tickner "TAKING A STAND" (Allen
and Unwin :Sydney : 2001 : $35 ) .Robert was the ALP
member for Hughes until defeated by the Liberals in 1996.
He served as Aboriginal Affairs minister for six years
and has revealed a lot in the book about how government
policy in this area started and developed. The book
reveals how such bizarre legal concepts as native title
now exist. A very useful chronology of events is included
in it.
- Australian Electoral Commission "ELECTION
98" . This is a five volume wire bound
set of voting statistics. Volume one gives the Senate
count in great detail for each state. By going through
the numerous counts for the larger states you can get a
clear grasp of how proportional representation works.
Volumes two to five give the House of Reps vote for each
seat in each state. Two is N.S.W., three is Victoria,
four is Qld, and five is all the others. You can also see
this information on a cd -rom only if your hard disk has
microsoft excel software installed on it. Available for
free from the Australian Electoral Commission at 13 23 26

capital city A.E.C . head office first and ask nicely.
Please note that a similar publication will come out
after the 2001 national election. State electoral
commissions produce smaller but similar documents.
- Australian Electoral Commission "NATIONAL
ELECTORAL PROFILES 2001" . This gives
you a map and details on each of the 148 electorates
including details of the address of the sitting member.
Useful for sending them letters on One Nation local
branch letterhead! Also available free from the Electoral
Commission.
- Electoral Commission of Quuensland series "QLD
ELECTION 1998" and "QLD
ELECTION 2001" . This is the
statistical summary of the vote in the 89 seats in the
Queensland Parliament. A very useful way to understand
why One Nation preferences are now such a hot topic. Free
publications are available from the ECQ at level 6 at 160

which is well worth a visit if want to study the

- Mark Lopez "ORIGINS OF MULTICULTURALISM
IN AUSTRALIA" (Melbourne University
Press :2000 :$60). This is a long book which reveals in
great detail how multiculturalism developed and how the
Liberal and Labor parties embraced it. It has a huge
bibliography. Every One Nation member should read this
book. Order it for your local library. Make a photocopy
of the bibliography.
- Amy Mcgrath "THE FRAUDING OF VOTES"
(H.S. Chapman Society :Sydney: 2001: Tower Books 19
Rodborough Road ,French's Forest ) . The latest edition
has an introduction by Bob Bottom detailing fraudulent
voting in Quensland. Book gives a lot of very useful
historical detail. Cemetary voters will hate this book!
- Andrew Markus "RACE" (Allen
and Unwin: Sydney 2001 : ISBN 1 86448 866 2 : $30 ) .
This very compact book covers the emergence of racial
issues in contemporary Australian political debate. Well
written and has some useful if unsympathetic information
on the rapid emergence of One Nation.
- Bernard Salt "THE BIG SHIFT"
(Hardie Grant Publishing : 2001 : ISBN 1
87671929 29 x : $30) . This covers the huge demographic
changes going on in Australia. A visit to the Gold Coast
reveals lots of retired people there for example. These
changes partly underlie the rapid growth of One Nation in
regional areas. Lots of interesting facts. Bernard Salt
provides more details in his accompanying website www.thebigshift.com
.
- Peter Mares " BORDERLINE"(
Univ. of NSW Press : Sydney 2001 : ISBN 0 86840 746 1: $30
). An attempt to cover the hot issue of illegal
immigration in Australia. Some interesting facts but
usual idealistic academic standpoint.
- Hap Hannan "LOOK WHO'S TALKING"
(Sandstone Publishing : Sydney : 2001 : ISBN 1 86505 147
0 ). A very entertaining guide to public speaking skills
with reference to Australian audiences.
- Ian Gray and Geoffrey Lawrence " A Future
for Regional Australia " ( Cambridge
University Press : 2001 : $40 : Melbourne : ISBN 0 521
002273 ) . Academics analysing rural economic decline and
possibilities for renewal. Not sympathetic to P.H.O.N.
Large bibliography. Both authors are university
professors specialising in this area.
- Ian Burnley " The Impact
of Immigration on Australia " ( Oxford
University Press : 2001 : $55 : Melbourne : ISBN 0 19
550835 1 ). Mainly historical approach with 388 pages of
text, tables, photographs, and figures. Detailed look at
Sydney and Melbourne. Usual academic nonsense about
multiculturalism. Lots of valuable data.
- Ticky Fullerton " Watershed"
( ABC Books : Sydney : $30 : 2001 : ISBN 0 7333
0999 2 ). A very comprehensive and balanced coverage of
the cotroversial issue of water usage. On page 204 she
actually praises Pauline !
- Ann Capling "Australia and the
Global Trade System " (Cambridge
University Press : Melbourne : $40 : Isbn 0 521 78054 3
). Historical approach. Good coverage of policy aspects.
Last chapter looks at the World Trade Organisation. A
very useful book for anybody wishing to understand
current debate on international trade.
- Michael Burleigh " The Third Reich-A new
History " ( Pan : 2000: $30 : ISBN 0
330 48757 4 ). This 811 page book gives such a good
coverage of the topic it won the 2001 Samuel Johnson
Prize for Non- Fiction.
- W. David Mcintyre " A Guide to the
Contemporary Commonwealth " ( Palgrave
: 2001 : $55 : ISBN 0 333 963091).Written by a
Christchurch history professor, it makes useful reading
in light of the coming CHOGM in Coolum on the Sunshine
Coast.
- Wanna, Kelly and Forster " Managing
Public Expenditure in Australia"
(Allen and Unwin : 2000 : $35 : ISBN 1 86448 713
5 ).A mainly historical coverage of this difficult area
over the last 20 years. Lots of data to think about.

intellectual progress. Do a bit every day if you can because
politics is a complicated phenomenon involving a high degree of
awareness of public policy issues.
