On the 25th of June,
Nearly forty years ago;
God gave to me a gift, 
More precious than you'll ever know.

 I thank you now and forever,
For the tender love and care;
For the heart stopping smile you give,
For the feelings we both share.

You take a piece of my heart,
To be with you wherever you are;
To remind you to never forget,
That you are my evening star.

The love you take along with you,
You may draw on whenever you need;
For, as long as your Dad has his breath,

But in these brief verses I've given,
A pretty fair indication, 
Of why my heart is so riven.

But hurts like this do mend,
And I thank the God above,
For the tenderness you have shown,
And the gift of your sweet love.

So go with him my darling,
And stay as sweet as you are;
For He has planted in heaven above,
The place for a brand new star.
