Hang-gliding
Part 2

Alpine weather dramatically improved in July, so I finally gathered all the flights necessary for the A-license exam. The examinator was pleased with my first atempt on July 31st 2004, making me a happy licensed hang-glider pilot.

This is my first flight as a pilot, from Penken, Austria (2000 m).

Start phase 1: the glider's weight rests on the shoulders.
First steps are small for a smooth and balanced start.

Start phase 2: as soon as the glider carries its own weight, hands
change position for better maneuverability. Large steps increase speed.

At higher speed, glider (hopefully) raises pilot off the ground.
Body inclines forward, but landing gear stays in position as
sudden turbulences might require further running.

Please note the standing ovation from an exhilerated crowd in
the background. Well, almost.

Hands on the speedbar, levelled and controlled flight.

Legs going into the harness...

... and stretched for a comfortable position.
The harness can be zipped close for streamline sakes.

And off I go into the big blue yonder!
